I replied to Downies' earlier response and subsequently they had a closer look at it and requested more images. So I scanned both sides of the coin at 90 deg rotations and sent them through yesterday.

Downies got back to me today and have said "It looks to be struck on an underweight blank" and they need to see it in the flesh for a final decision.

Wooooooooooohooooooooooooooooooooo!

Now I don't feel so silly about doing that happy jig at the bank when I saw it.

Step one taken towards a unique error - hope it passes step two. Fingers crossed.

I'm puzzled - at first glance, I thought this coin has been dipped in acid. I used to do it during high school experiment and the results look somewhat similar to what is shown.

Nnnnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! gxseries, don't say it is so!

I'm clinging to hope that it's a genuine planchet error - at least until my dreams are formally dashed by Downies.

Downies have always been true and honest with me in all my correspondence, good luck with it. do they know what a thinner planchet is off, I would be keen to find out

Hi, I'm expecting their verdict today. I mailed it a fortnight ago and they said they should be able to give an opinion last Monday. After not hearing anything, I emailed on Tuesday and they said I should know by today as they wanted someone to have a look at it. I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas and will post their assessment here as soon as I hear. Fingers crossed for a verdict today.

Man! No email from Downies today.

Hopefully, the guy hasn't run off to Brazil with my coin... I guess I'll have to wait until Monday now.

Just received Downies' evaluation ...

Quote:
My opinion is that it has been immersed in acid resulting in an overall weak image.

Thanks for the kind words Shanew. I would do the same thing again without hesitation if I thought I had a one-off in my hot little hand.
