This whole thread has gotten me to think harder about the ever present "collect what you like" and to that I would add "not what others tell you to like". Following this one "rule" could save you heart-ache, especially if you're only in this hobby to invest. Value shoots up if many people are interested, but if you find a little niche that no one has exploited then chances are there are very few fakes.
And really study hard to become an expert in the field you like most.

Been very busy. I just stumbled across this. Great info for anyone collecting slabbed coins. I've been working on counterfeit gold bars and reporting to proper authorities. Thanks to yingyang

I would also bet that the barcode on the fake doesn't match the cert. number. I can't get a clear enough snippet of that one to prove it, though.

Quote: I'm sure you all have seen this. But it is good to post. come from an article on spotting Fake PCGS Slab Diagnostics It was good when it first came out almost 10 years ago, but they have made many changes to their fake slabs since then. That generation of fake slab shells ended around 2009. I'm sure there are some still around but most fake slabs on the market today won't be detected by those tests.
