I read a CW article that they would be up for sale starting in May.

Quote: Anyone buying? Well I won't be at these prices, but my buddy might pick one up, if he does, I'll post a photo! He usually only buys current mint gold coins.

Anyone bite yet? I see the cheapest is around 2600. These are graded as "PCGS 92 Cleaned", For about 3300 you can get an XF45, and at 3500 you can get an AU50.
THere's only 1400 coins or less in all. If you were to "invest" with plans to hold for 5-20 years, where would you put your money?

When are people going to learn to keep their mouths quiet when they find something of value. That way no taxes, no finder's fee to be paid.
Sell off a few from time to time and pocket the money.
People never learn.

Leo there was a member on here that acquired a coin from this hoard. IIRC, it was an 1889-S Double Eagle graded MS-63 though it looked like a 64.
Cleaned coins can be had for less than $2,600 sure they won't be from the hoard. The graded examples are priced approximately 2 times what non hoard coins are priced at.
I'm not trying to discourage you from purchasing one, only letting you know what I and others noticed with this offering.

most of what remains (180 coins or almost an 88% sell through) seems to be in various AU grades; I counted 30 MS and 4 damaged...
Anyone remember the original population distribution?

I estimate that within 5 years a lot of these coins will be on the market and selling for whatever they can fetch.....around average retail....after all the hype dies down.

Great points, I was thinking "hey, there's only X amount of these", but I guess you could say that about anything.
Thanks for the input.

When I looked (ANA2014) yesterday, Thursday, 7Aug - Kagin's had 45 coins in their display case.
