Almost 2 years ago I found a 1942/41 D dime certified by NGC from a bag of thousand Mercury dimes I purchased from APMEX. I also found quite a few RPM and varieties as well. As a teenager I found a 1885 IHC that later graded by NGC as BN-64. A few bargains over time that I spend pennies that were value into the dollars, just have to look with the right tool of knowledge.

I've found quite a few IHC varieties unattributed, some of the "top 10". I've found 1998-S and 1999-S Close AM LMC proofs, 70-S small date proofs and MS coins. A 42/41-D? Nice! Only foreign overdates for me, some considered scarce. I keep looking, because you never know what will turn up!

^^ Wow, just read through that thread. I'm lucky to just find a Mercury dime in general, let alone one with a mintage of only 260,000ish.

Thanks for bringing up that 1916-D thread! It happened during my several year 'hiatus' from collecting. Great to see stories like that!

off metal strike 1999 $2. I got it change at the local convenience store. at first I thought the clerk ripped me off by giving me a foreign coin, it sat in my spare change jar for 3 months (lucky that the kids didn't spend it!) sold it for $750.00 and used the funds to bankroll my start into collecting.

Nice folks! I love the bits about the 'indifference' until folks realize they have something. I imagine there are a few nervous moments after becoming aware!!
Good stuff!!

When visiting my local coin shop, I often grab s handful of inexpensive foreign coins from the bucket. They are great rainy day entertainment for youngsters, with lessons in geography, history, metallurgy and math. I picked it because it was square, and didn't notice what I had til I got home. Its from IINNDDIIAA.

I found a 1932-S Washington quarter in a roll of silver quarters from APMEX. I made a topic about it a few months ago. Plan on sending it to PCGS sooner or later.
