This looks like a normal nickel. Color and shine will vary in circulated specimens, as will edge thickness. If the weight is the same as a normal nickel, then it's normal.

Might be so but I'm not sure. Something's different. I've looked at thousands plus of coins. We all have. Something is different here

That's an incredibly useful post sudz. Thank you. I'll no doubt spend hours there.
And to the other comment, I'm not hoping its worth a hundred bucks. Just confused as to why I can't define it or if something indeed happened to it in circ just to mess with my head.
Chances are if no one here has ever seen it then its unrelated to errors but never know, and that's part of the fun right?

Take another look at that link Military2Civilian... Notice the first person on there, Mike Diamond. Look up a couple posts, that's Mike Diamond himself in your thread...

Right, got that. The site itself is something I'm interested in. And I'm hear to receive a variety of opinions from people who know what they are doing. He's prob right but thought to hear multiple ideas.

And hey Mike, obviously coins can wear differently, but never have seen a coin manufactured completely dull on one side and perfect on the other then eh? There just isn't any wear on either side. No distortion, which is why I found it interesting.

The dull side may have been exposed at the end of a shotgun roll, or it could have been resting on a reactive surface. I've seen quite a few coins with a very different luster or color on each face.

I was thinking exactly that. End of a roll. Thanks for all replies. On to the next.

Just a quick question. Is there any lettering/words printed on edge or rim of your coin?

Nothing else abnormal and most likely environmental damage.
It's just that having searched through hundreds of thousands of coins, I've never seen anything quite like it.
So I asked here.
But I think I've finally found my first legit error. It's a Minnesota State Quarter with an actual whole 'extra tree'!
It's a great example. Soon after that I found three other errors. My first legit errors in a whole year of searching. Woo hoo!
