Yeah its strange, I can't really tell myself.

- Details isn't to bad, but I know what you mean. Specially with the rust, but you can't really tell if it's fake just by saying it has rust/stains on. Is there any other ways to determind if it's fake or not?

Well considering they didn't start striking Trade dollars until 1873.........

Agree with Conder. I was not aware of an 1871 Trade dollar.

Unfortionitely, it's absolutely a fake.. Lol, it's pretty easy to tell, because as Condor said they didn't start minting Trade dollars until 1873 so this is an "impossible"'date... Making it undoubtably counterfeit. Chinese counterfeiters need to do a bit more studying as they seem to make "impossible" dated coins all too often... But easy to detect fakes this way so that's good for us at least, lol.

Before even getting to the design, my initial thought was:
"Hey........I didn't know that Trade dollars were around in 1871."
Yep, that it's a counterfeit for sure.

I have seen several impossible date coins like a 1941 Morgan and a 1906 ASE. If the Chinese are going to make all of these fakes, they should at least do a little research first.

Wait, I thought if it's an impossible date we have to call it a "fantasy piece" instead of a counterfeit?

Silver is not magnetic but that ugly rusty thing will leap to a magnet.
