I've no problem at all believing a Proof survived this long untoned. It's not difficult.

I don't like the way the obverse looks actually. Just a little too perfect/white

Re: obverse, it could be my admittedly poor photography. It is in a PF 65 NGC slab.

I cant imagine this not have been dipped in a prior incarnation.

Based on what? There is no reason at all to make that assumption. It is simply an awesome proof Merc.

Tough to tell from the photos, but it looks like this has FSB on the Fasces...

Looks much better than a mere 65.
Blast white, clean surfaces! I love this Merc proof. 66 at the very least.

@BamaBlue, quick edit your post and remove what you said!
All proof coins show all the details. It has to be FSB.

I think it's too shiny and MUST be dipped that the graders let slip by.

1936-PF-65-

I'm going to double down... I have never heard this and don't think that it's correct. PCGS and NGC put the FSB designation of all of their slabs that earn that distinction. Not all PR/PF Mercury dimes get it.

I think you misunderstood BamaBlue, proof coins are intended to be struck with Full Details so strike descriptors are not used as they are on Business Strikes.
Rest in Peace
