Denco7,

What you have there is the 2014 bullion Britannia.

The Royal Mint releases two Britannias every year. One is a simple bullion version for investors and it's the same design every year. The other is released in proof and the design changes every year.

I am a little dissapointed that 2014's offering does not include a bu version of the new design like last year. I have collected all bu versions back to 98 and will have to add proofs from now on. A beautiful coin this year and wonderful series nonetheless.

I think we need to ask The Royal Mint about a release date for BU version of this coin....I thought the BU lagged behind the proof ones last year.

I heard back from The Royal Mint

"Thank you for your e-mail.

I can confirm that we do have a Brilliant Uncirculated 2014 Britannia available BR14AGN priced at £57.50 with an issue limit of 10,000 which you are able to pre order as this will not be available until 25th August for despatch which is when you will be able to view this online at http://www.royalmint.com . I can confirm that the design for this coin will be the same as last year it is only the Proof coins that will have the new change of design as currently being advertised online.

Should you wish to discuss any of the above further or would like to place an order please contact me on 01443 623251 and I will be happy to assist you."

£57.50 for the BU and £92.50 for the Proof one.

This is my first time submitting a picture so please bear with me. Last years new design (image below) came in a Proof and BU version along with the standard 2013 bullion coin. Am I reading the email correctly that no BU version with the new design will be made available?

So let me get this straight, last year 2013, we had a new design for the proof version, they also issued a BU version with the new design and the bullion version with the standard design This year we have the annual new design for the proof version, but the BU version is going to use the new 2013 design but with a 2014 date and the bullion is going to be the standard design ?

I think that is correct. I have sent another email to The Royal Mint since that is not how the guy name James from The Royal Mint explained the changes back in 2013. Very disappointed about this.

I like the 5 oz coin for 2014...

this one- Britannia 2014 Five Ounce Silver Proof Coin

My problem tho is I went back and looked at the first 5 oz coin they put out.

Even graded, at a 69, this coin was going on ebay for 150 dollars roughly, less than at issue. I even saw several dealers still carrying the 2013 issue, in stock!

to me, with silver prices a big unknown,, and lower after market prices, I think if you want this coin you put it on your wish list and stalk ebay for one where you can get it cheaper.

The Royal Mint is saying its lower mintage this year, which is nice and they are sayings its 60% sold out and I am hearing tons of positive comments on the design... but a big part of me is saying this can be had for less after the dust settles so why rush in now..

On top of it, I just wonder if this 60% sell out is due to the amount of speculators that want to flip this coin.... I have seen one auction for this coin starting at 1,0000 but no one is biting....

The hand visible touching the trident looks like a 3-fingered alien claw. Very odd...but I do like the rest of the design.

Has anyone purchased one of these? Any reports of how it looks in-hand?

It's been a while since I posted to this forum....I've had a difficult year. Anyway, I came across this thread and I just wanted to add my voice alongside those members who think this design is terrific. The globe background, isn't that supposed to represent the sphere of the influence (geo-political) that the UK has seen itself having when the Britannia was first conceived?

I may buy one....low mintage, great design, first of ultra high relief.

The silver Brittania to me is one of the most beautiful series in the world.
I, like so many others, like how they change up the coin often.
