Thank 7TF... like I said though, I'm not a photographer; that's why I tried to use as detailed written description with the photos I could take. As apposed to some who [Blurry photo/no photo] "What's this?" lol

I sincerely appreciate the direction to the 56, but like I said above, there is no doubling on this piece, anywhere. None visible under a 10x, 16x or my 45x. Still a mystery.

There is one nick that's PMD by the pitting, but the rest is pitting. The only notable feature I can find. And the only toning on the obverse is on the upper NE rim. You are 100% right, these 83-O's are tricky.

Thanks again!

Twodsonegf, just an fyi since you're new... We don't like bringing threads back from the dead here on ccf. Chances are the op got the answer or doesn't even have the coin anymore.

If a thread is more than a month or two old please don't "necro" it unless it is vital information to the thread that should be added

Thanks, well I guess it's too late now! I will try to keep that in mind, but I enjoy reading the old threads as a way to learn.

I just thought I'd try to help since the thread hit a dead end and our friend never received a proper attribution or further direction. That and I recognize that MM... will have to pull my coins in case this fella sees this and decides to post again.

Please excuse me if my way of thinking is not quite rational, but based on the idea that any thread that is a couple months old should not get any more replies, does that not mean that half of the threads on the main list are no longer useful? And thus, kicking one from June 2015 off the edge to further another thread that was never quite "satisfied" seems like an appropriate action given the staleness in this " VAM" section. Please correct me if I am wrong still...

In any regard, I will still keep the idea of "resurrecting" month or two old threads in my mind when looking at more active group topics and not kick off a somewhat more recent thread from the main list. Just seems this VAM section does not get as much action as it deserves ;) Thanks again for the friendly reminder.

I realize that, thank you. Is there a way to contact the author of this thread so that I don't have to be an inconvenience to everyone else on this message board by bringing an ancient thread back to the top of the message board? It would be great if that was a possibility, because then I wouldn't have to worry about bumping another really old thread off the bottom of the board.

All I can do is recommend vetting VAM vatieties through VAMworld. There are an immense number of VAM experts and a message system (if CC does not have one). I come here to learn more and hopefully use a little of my knowledge to help others..

The OP has been awol since 4/12/15 and does not receive e-mails so any resolution may be moot at this point to the OP. If you have a VAM match for this Morgan please post it up. I'm always interested and appreciate your enthusiasm.

Well I've been studying the 1883-O varieties, and I believe this is one may be one we call Q4 currently, as it does not appear to match any of the current listings. I will pull the coin tomorrow and hopefully get comparison photos up before long.

Thanks for the help and interest!

That is awesome! Yeah I noticed your 1883-O V1C2 LDS, which is envious! Would not mind seeing some photos of the right wing tip ;)

I'll include it in Sundays post of 1883's. I've got six examples of VAM1C from 1C1 EDS to 1C2 LDS.

Closest match is V49, but the plate photos appear to be different. LVA may have to see this soon now that I've got a new 1898-O variety to send him... LVA is the discoverer of the VAM 49 so I would think that he may have the DC to compare. Here are a few photos for comparison sake:

The rust patches are a match, even the tip of the adjacent star that points at the denticles matches.
