I think allspice and Silveroid have nailed it!
Silvertowne is probably trying to dump their stock of imperfect coins. If it's true this doesn't say much for their integrity nor the mint's quality control.
For the record, I bought a red enameled Maple Leaf from the mint at issue price. It has no flaws and I like it. I passed on the greenie.

Quote: Silveroid I think, I waited to post like this... Tell me guys, please, do you all liked this coin and waited for the discounts? Interesting question. In the NCLT section, I've 3 types of coins in my waiting list: 1) "Hot coins". A coin that I like very much, that it's almost sure I'm going to buy it anytime soon, just waiting for a good deal or to have the enough budget. In this category, these are coins I love and the future market value is irrelevant. 2) Coins I like, I would like to have them but it's not a must. It would be nice to have it if a good opportunity arrives so the price plays a very important factor. I would take these coins only if I think the future market price of the coin won't decrease . The Mapple Leaf Impression coin it's in this category. Buying it at $54 there is no risk and I like the coin. 3) Investment coins. Coins that I like or not, but that I buy just with the intention of making a profit in the future when selling them.

@'Arianzo, I like how you've broken down, the decision making process into 3 separate and distinct criteria. I follow these criteria and process very closely. I now have coins, that fit neatly into one of those areas.
My only change is on investment type coins, I must like them and be willing to add them to my collection. Especially since I may have them many yrs, or they would fail to break even, when finally sold. I must like a coin to willingly spend money on it.

So the first coin in the series was the non-coloured coin with the neat design, 1/4 ounce for $59.95, $3 face value. Still seeing this one at the Post Office, nice design but a small coin. I passed because I hate paying that much for 1/4 ounce, (Martin Short coin was $3 face and 1/4 ounce for $49.95 with intricate design). Then the red maple coin came out at $20 face and same mintage, 10,000 for the 1 ounce coin at $114.95, again nice design (again) but way overpriced. Now we have a series with the green one, no extra money invested in design, just infill with a different colour enamel. So the mint makes a good profit for no extra work or investment in design labour on their part, just shoving blanks through the press and colouring. Sounds about right. This is what is killing NCLT, discounted coins only months after release. For those that like them, all the power to you, nice to have in the collection. I will stay away.

I "warned" people about the same as allspice, with SilverTowne selling non-graded at a discount besides graded ones. Actually, there wasn't any "accusation" or statement that they were defect or not good coins, as I never ordered from them before, but more as a questioning.
But then I ordered one myself at the deep discount of 50$, and received it and I'm very happy of what I've received. This coin is flawless in my naked eye, not sure I could differentiate a 67 and a 70 honestly so I'm happy with what I have.
I still believe you will never receive a 69 or 70 from them when bought ungraded, but still they won't sell a defect coin neither so as long as you're not looking at your coins with microscope or want it to be graded, I now have full confidence in quality of these coins.

What a world we would live in if the mint sold their 1oz coins at $50-60. ( obviously not talking about their bullion department )
The coin I received from them was beautiful. I wanted to pick this coin up a while ago, I was trying to snipe an auction from CA at around $90 but failed then I just gave up. When I saw it on silvetowne it was a sign. As long as you get enjoyment from the your purchase it doesn't really matter what you paid for it.

Received Red Maple from Silvertown today. The COA is #01244/10,000. Suggesting to me that they had ordered these quite early after release (2013). To compare, I also received today the 1st Star-Charts coin directly from the mint COA #5407/7500.
This suggest to me, that despite early orders on M/C status, the mint fills orders for their dealers first, and M/C members are second, and just a bit better than the general public orders.
btw, the coin I received from Silvertown is flawless. Much more impressive a coin than I had imagined from the original pictures provided on the mint web-site.

Received mine last week. It was perfect. I'd suggest the speculation about low grade or flawed coins is misplaced. Added: just checked my COA and it's one higher than yours Dcadon - 01245.

My apologies to Silvertowne for doubting their ethics.

I think they had the majority of the mintage and at this point would rather just clear inventory so they could put the money to other use. I probably wouldn't be able to tell a 68 from a 69 anyways, but I can honestly say the coin I received looked great and there was no flaw I could see.

I got my coin a couple of weeks ago and it was practically flawless. There were a few small bubbles inside the enameling but they couldn't really be seen from far away.
