As most people have probably read the OCT release post, the new NHL coins, all of them are in pure silver this time and I think this is the first time the set is released in silver. plus a fairly low mintage of 6000 and 5000, considering that the usual for ~$100 coins is 7500-8500. Although the release is nothing different like the goalie mask coins, any opinions on how will this do, as in will it sell out and hold value or will it be one of those that the RCM will keep sending emails for months until sold out/archived The coins can be seen here: http://www.ebay.ca/sch/coins.4.fun/...047675.l2562

They will sell 3-4K of some of them. Montreal and Toronto might "sell out" at the Mint but it's unlikely that they will be 'hot' coins and will be sold at a discount in a few months. How'd I do? PS - those are some ugly coins.

Ugly is not the worst adjective you could have used.

The Leafs called worse franchise in pro sports by ESPN recent ranking - this new coin will not boost that ranking at all despite NHL endorsement... They look like something you'd score from a crackerjack box. Despite silver content and relatively low mintage - not gonna be too thrilling at any level... One playoffs appearance in the last decade says it all...

Well then, out of the Canadiens and the leafs, I guess the Canadiens coin should be more popular? as last time they made it pretty far into playoffs?

This thread will quickly expand if Leafs v Habs devotes get debating on which coin will warrant a sell out first...

IMO price is too high for 1/2 oz coin - might have considered them at $60

Quote: Might have considered them at $20.00. as per RCM only silver content there for CAD 39.95 (the cost of the cheapest 1/2oz coin - O Canada series), so the Mint can not sell them for $20. Not interesting coins. The mintage is low, the price not high, but very weak design. Reminds some de-faced coin with the sticker on the surface.

Just in case the NHL owners and NHLPA need their cut on these coins, as agree what thoughtless design for this series.
