John - I really have no idea, but nonetheless that is where it was found. It was flattened out some when found. That particular machine is notorious for letting all kinds of stuff through it. I get 3$ or so worth of dimes in the pennies every bag, get quarters in the halves, bent or mangled coins in the wrong denomination.
I am glad I got it though.

PMD I will go against the others because. Quote: Found it in 200$ bag of nickels from coin machine. and Quote: That particular machine is notorious for letting all kinds of stuff through it. You are (meaning no offense, of course), and here's why: A postmint hit would not reveal remaining strike underneath what it broke loose. The only way for lettering to remain under the peel is if that peel were in place, but loose, at the moment of strike. It is therefore undoubtedly a lamination which peeled postmint. The bag likely did the peeling, but the error was in place.

I agree. That's the real deal - and it's very cool, too! Unfortunately, there isn't much additional value to this piece. Lamination errors, even the ones with retained peelings, have never really sold for any great premiums. There have been many large laminations selling lately, most relevantly a modern date Jefferson nickel with a 40% lamination which sold for less than $30 if I remember correctly. Congrats on the find.

Errorcoins222 - thanks for the tip on sales. I will probably list it on ebay. I was hoping to get 25-50$ for it. Sounds like the low end of that is about the top end. Might as well give it a home elsewhere.

No problem. And again, my memory may be flawed. I wish I kept a better auction archive for reference. But who knows? Auction fever can strike anyone at any time!

That is a nice modern day error, and lamination error in current day production is rare from my perspective. I did be curious at what sort of price it would fetch on the auction block too!

Awesome find! I wonder if anyone would grade / authenticate it... and I wonder what kinda slab / case they would need to fit it.

Good CRH find. That one reminds me of my Franklin CRH find.
