That Machine Doubling is going to make this a tough coin to attribute.

Have you tried to match it up with the VAM 3A? http://www.vamworld.com/1886-P+VAM-3A or 3B http://www.vamworld.com/1886-P+VAM-3B

It appears you have the Doubled 1 and the clashing.

If it is the 3A or #B it should also match the VAM 3 description.

Now that I look at the 1 more I don't think it matches the VAM 3 description, it could just be more Machine Doubling.

Yes I made that comment in his previous thread. Machine Doubling and some die erosion.

7TF it would be an easier feat if there were nicely detailed full obverse & reverse pics. Could be a couple of 86 VAMS. Your call of V3 might be spot on.

coinman there may be clashing on your coin which could make it a 3a or 3b; but there would need to be letter transfer. It could even be another variety; need better pics to tell. However not all features of a VAM are always listed for each variety. Significant features & die markers are listed & insignificant "die poop" is quite frequently not listed on the variety page. Don't feel bad we've all been there. Even some of the old timers sometimes overlook the obvious and feel dumb when it is pointed out. You think this is bad try ID'ing some of the 1881-S minor varieties or the 1921-S scribbles varieties. It can be a hair pulling event. On a positive note you would be surprised how much you learn driving yourself crazy ID'ing some of these. Try not to get frustrated and enjoy the madness.
