I'd buy and nice Walker half, an SLQ, and a Buffalo nickel, circa 1920 something.

I'd buy a roll of Walker halves (maybe have a bit of money left over), or 7-8 silver eagles......

I would either buy a 1931 S Wheat cent in MS condition. I got a really nice one for only $125. Or get a 1909 s Wheat cent in the best condition possible.

oh yes, a 1921 D Mercury dime in F, or so, would be a good investment, also.

You'd have to be very lucky or very good to find a 1921-D Mercury in solid F for $100. If you do, jump on it.

The Sept Coin Prices has it listed for $205.

If you can find someone who hasn't gotten the memo...

Hmmmmmm. This week I'd save it to spend at the upcoming coin show on Saturday. Any other day, I'd probably put it toward the 1992 mint set from Australia. I should be able to get one for about half that, if I played it right.
Rest in Peace

grab a 1909 S Lincoln, you should be able to get one for $100.
They have increased like crazy the last two years.
current trends= $85 in good-4
$100 in VG-8.
They will increase as the centennial (2009) approaches).
And then they'll go up more.
Especially if they change the design.

I'd go to the bank and get $100.00 in half dollars. I figure by the time I'm done going through them, I'd find a couple silver halves.

Any methods/tricks to specifically get those halves rolls from the banks. Because I have been asking for them from all the bank that I went to and none have them, either that or they have the post 1964 halves. What kind of bank should we go to (Big one: Bank of America, Washington Mutual, Well Fargo...; Credit Union banks; or local, small banks)?

Thanks

its best to hit small towns which banks ive been to dont have halfs so I have to order them. If your looking in large banks like new york doubt that you will find anything worth keeping except for copper pennies... but you may get lucky!

For your $100, I would agree with most people here and buy yourself one or two really nice coins. But if you do buy a rare coin / valuable coin, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND buying a CERTIFIED/SLABBED coin.

There are a lot of 1909-S Lincoln Cent, and 1916-D Mercury dime counterfeits.

A lot of great suggestions, all collectors are different, and I guess there is no right or wrong answer.
Personaly unless you are trying to complete a set. I would just buy one coin with it. I used to buy lots of coins and search through them, which was fun but now I would rather have one great coin instead of 50 ok coins.
I would look at coins priced at $100 and spend it on ONE I liked.
In my books quality is always better than quantity.
In 3-5 year's time that $100 coin might now be worth $400-$500. If you don't buy it you might then say, jeez I could have bought that coin for $100.
Say you buy 50 coins worth a couple of dollar each. In 3-5 years time I doubt they will be worth as much as 1 coin worth $100 today. You can buy an abundance of cheaper coins anytime.
In the end buy one you like the look of, or the history of, not just because it#146;s expensive. That way you will appreciate it more.

I have no problem at all getting as many rolls of halves as I want. The trick is like anything else. You have to be known. Many, many banks I've been to have them but since not a big demand item they are usually in the vault. For a stranger to just walk in and request them means they have to lock up everything, put things aside, if not authorized, contact a person that is authorized to go to the vault for those halves.
I make sure I go to several banks, have a small savings account in each, say things in to tellers so they remember you such as Hi, having a nice day or wow is the weather outside horrible. Anything so your are remembered as a regular customer. I also attempt to go to these banks at off hours, not during lunch, on Fridays or Mondays. These are generally pay days or people need money so they are usually more busy and a walk to the vault is not recommended. One teller told me they were instructed that if someone wants something special, and you don't know them or are real busy, jsut say we don't have any. I myself hate to hold up a bunch of people when they do go to the vault for me but I always end up with 4 to 10 rolls if I want them. Large Ike dollars are usually by a waiting list of relatives. Odd looking coins that are old or just weird looking like an off set is also usually put aside for relatives.
I would suggest you go to a few banks very often prior to asking for anything special or date or marry a bank teller.
If you marry a bank teller, you may acquire a lot of great coins but also, you may have to use them in a divorse settlement.
