Quote: I don't feel sorry for whoever wins this auction. Once they realize they got duped into buying a fake coin, they only have themselves to blame. There are so many red flags on that auction/listing that there is enough reason not to buy it. And the fact that the seller uses a stock photo instead of an in-hand picture of the actual coin is a big no no. I disagree with this. Imagine if you are just new to collecting this year. You've heard how expensive the superman coin was last year and you decided to do a quick ebay search. This ad turn up in your search and you think you are getting bargain. With your limited knowledge about fake coins, you placed a bid and won. With the way ebay auction work, sometime you get a bit too excited and want to get in at low price and didn't look it through carefully. For a new collector, sometime you didn't know the gold coin was minted in Canada, it's 14k, it's 1/4 oz. all you recognize is the picture of the coin. I've personally had accidentally bid on the 1/2 oz wolve thinking I was bidding on the 1oz wolve bullion coin. Like other said here in the thread, RCM should crack down on this. It's not like they are not making enough money from us.

Remember the RCM's crack legal teams took action against a local band for using the penny's image on a cover, just completely lost on the RCM's logic on this issue.

@Lostwords: I agree with your point that the Mint should start cracking down on these fakes as they are flooding the secondary market. Also, I see where you are getting at with your point about new collectors but I have to disagree with you. Considering this coin has been out for almost a year now, any new collector with common sense would bid on a listing that has the actual picture of the coin in-hand, rather than just a stock photo. If I were to buy the 2013 Superman gold coin knowing that it is expensive, I would want to see what I am getting for my money. This listing manipulates buyers by not only having the incorrect specs but by also having a stock photo of the coin. Also, I would want the original packaging that came with the coin but nowhere in this listing does the seller show it or describe it. All it takes is a few minutes to research the specs of the coin to understand what you are buying and it takes just as fast to scan a sellers listing and move on. If the buyer enjoys the fake coin then great, but if they are upset by being duped it is partly their fault for not knowing the coin better. I wouldn't be surprised to see a negative feedback on this sellers profile in the coming days

There is only one reason for selling or making fake products, it's to deceive other buyers, but it is the copyright or patent holders obligations to protect their products and marketplace.

How did we know that this was a fake? The answer is - from the description. If we could figure this out easily, then all bidders should have been able to do that too. So, if they didn't do that by whatever reason, then it was their fault. P.S. Don't get me wrong - this sale was illegal no matter what. But people have to read the description. And this is obvious.

The point is if the RCM did the simple right thing, these sales would not be listed on ebay, do you see any other openly described fake items openly on ebay? Sure it's still the buyers who bid this slug to over 500.00

For every fake reported to ebay, another 3 go up. People need to be educated but how?

Post an add on ebay for information on the fake superman coins with all the info people need :-) When they read your add they will know what to look for. If you don't sell anything it won't cost you anything. If you have to put a price put down one cent then email them the info.

The same should be done for the fake birds, bees, ducks etc.
