Hi yes I have successfully had the 2nd listing removed with some help from a ebay forum member.

And to answer the question how to steal some ones account , quite easy if you know what your doing, Hackers use programs , once they scan for the user name on ebay of a account not in use for a period of time they simple run a password hacker program that just runs a letter and number on each symbol until the password is cracked.

They use abandoned accounts because the owner is not using it so will not be logging on so less chance if any of a complaint while they run there scam.

Someone who is a regular user would soon complain they were unable to log on.

SPG-1 actually there is a branch of the police based in Queensland that is dedicated to this exact problem, Its called the ONLINE FRAUD SQUAD. Google it.

It is exactly what there for to catch hackers stealing from the innocent including ebay and there biggest complaints and most jobs come from ebay fraud.

But this is not your standard dope at home thief just listing bogus items for sale, He is a professional who steals abandoned accounts then copies pastes high end items for sale on that account waits for payment to a bogus Paypal account then sends to a bank account withdraws and does a runner on that account. Makes it very hard to find them. Then he just goes back to ebay or other selling sights and starts the process all over again.

I have had words to ebay but they really don't care they just delete the account once enough complaints are made , They should be tracing the IP and relaying that info to the on line fraud squad, But most hackers have IP blocks in place anyways. IP is your internet provider number and once obtained can be traced right back to the very computer it is coming from. Via info that can be obtained from the internet provider in question but would require the police to do that or a court order.

I contacted that online branch based in QLD once.
It was in relation to an instance of blatant ebay fraud.
They really are useless.

The police do a fantastic job but online hacking and fraud is very hard to track firstly. Secondly on that ebay is international as is it's hacking threat which is outside the police jurisdiction.

Sweetap did you contact the QLD task force? You should. Then we will see what happens.

Like I said this is hard to investigate which is why you dont get much response from local police watch house.

The best action is to contact ebay via phone. Put in complaints etc.

This forum and everyone in it does a great job keeping these people in check.

agent86 that listing is again buy the same thief notice the account has not been used in over a year check the feedback page, over 6mths again. abandoned account, Same hacker.

Yep best to stay away from ebay on high end items.

And OH my florin ebay Australia is within the police jurisdiction, The head office is in Sydney. You still have to obey to our laws here, Yes a hacker like this one is hard to catch because they hide there IP most use VPS some good ones have other methods like a the local Library computers or a internet café. So many ways to hide it which makes it hard for anyone to find out who they are including the police.

The answer is to report and not participate in purchasing or demand pick up only. They are not going to show up if they don't have the item.

I myself am staying right out of ebay high end stuff and will report anything that looks wrong.

before being too critical of the Police, please remember that we have eight Police Forces in Australia, and none of them have enough spare time to do the others' work.
So, an early question in ebay fraud is - where did the crime take place ?
And then the complaint has to be directed to the appropriate Police Force.

It might be simpler if the Commonwealth Government created a crime of " ebay fraud", so that it all became a matter for the Federal Police.

But then, another difficulty arises - AFP have long had a strict policy of only investigating "serious" breaches of the law. A few years ago, Centrelink Fraud under $10,000 was "written off" as "insufficiently serious". So I don't see a lot of joy down that path either ...

The internet has left our legal system floundering in its wake.

Peter T, we have every right to be critical of the police, all 8 branches (plus overseas police). It is a cop out (pun intended) to claim that they need to know in which jurisdiction the crime occurred before they investigate as it occurred in all of them as soon as the fraudulent item was listed. And as the listing is on a US head-quartered companies website and accessible internationally then it comes under wire fraud in the US. I'm sure we have the legal equivalent here.
If the seller was selling coke, anthrax or C4 online then I bet they would move their butts into gear in 2 seconds and claim jurisdiction, but millions of dollars of ebay fraud and they ignore the problem.

Yes your totally correct nealeffendi, They do not do enough. Hate to be critical of them but you are right when it comes to internet fraud.

Every transaction is traceable via IP and even if they use library or internet café computers they are cctv monitored , its a as simple as looking at the time the transaction took place contact the internet provider of the IP number used then go check the cctv at that time to see who was using it if need be or just go to the address the internet provider has for that IP.

Then there's the account the funds are deposited to , It has to be some ones account.? Just go to the bank get there address and follow it up and yes banks have cctv on there counters and ATM,s. No excuse to just do a little police work which we pay handsomely for them to supposedly do.

I'm sure if any one of us was given access to the info I gave above we would know in a very short time who we were looking for. And remember its not just 1 person these thieves have and will steal from you can bet they are responsible for multiple fraudulent transactions.

OH and ebay Australia is a registered Australian company its only owned buy America, They still have to obey our laws hence the ACCC has to approve any dealings ebay choose to make on that site and yes it does come under our police jurisdiction.

I have actually had a buyer rip me of a few years ago for $450 The police actually got my money back in that case and successfully prosected the guy. Long story short I spoke to a Police officer here in Adelaide at a local station who traced it to a Melbourne address.
He just happened to know a police officer as a friend based in Melbourne and asked him to pay this guy a visit, The guy tried to use a dodgy name the cop got suspicious and long story short he ended up owning up to the crime.

I was given a cheque from the police victims of crime and they sued him from there and charged him.

I had a game of Golf with a guy whose son worked for the Police some years back and we were talking about ebay scams. It was mainly Laptop sales on ebay & Gumtree and the guy involved was using multiple ID's(50 or more) & Bank Accounts set up with stolen & false Licences. The false Licences were also used to purchase phones & pre-paid mobile Internet plans so tracking down the people responsible was extremely difficult and time consuming.
All this was nearly 10 years ago so I imagine they're more sophisicated scams now so as always its extreme buyer beware on any type of Internet purchase.

Interesting to see just how much people don't know how the state police forces operate. What Peter says is correct & sweetap you were very fortunate.

Do not think that you know how easy it is to investigate this sort of crime, jurisdictions DO affect how and where the investigation starts & finishes. Federal police will only look at it once it reaches a certain monetary value and or if it is media worthy or exceptional circumstances exist. This IS the same for drugs and other contraband. Customs even have a hard time getting them to look at dodgy importers.

Also, Gumtree is vastly worse than ebay. (!!)

As in my previous post, direct your attention at ebay. Not the police. I also said this forum does a great job identifying & reporting these people & should continue to do so regardless of any external difficulties.
