Rest in Peace

I wrote Dan a very straightforward e-mail asking him to not make personal attacks.(some were implied) I was asked by several members to intervene. I wrote letters to others as well, privately , and got positive resposes. I do not have copies of the mails I sent to Dan (there were two) as they were sent through the forum. Dan, if you will, paste and post the mails and let the forum members decide if I was out of line. If they feel I was, I will resign my post as moderator. Dan, I wish you would stay aboard for the reasons I wrote you about in those mails. You are well respected and liked here and will be missed. I hope you reconsider this drastic option. No harm was intended to you by my letters. Sincerely, Mike

Old Dan:
You are an important part of whichever forum you take part in.
You are knowledgable, interesting and entertaining.
Hope you reconsider.

Old Dan...PLEASE DON'T GO!!
I for one live to tell it like it is. Sometimes, I may NOT be sensitive and some people may get all upset about it. I think it makes the forum interesting. If we all held hands and sing the old Coke Commerical song ("I like to teach the world to sing"), it would be BORING!!
Passion and strong opinions are what make forums interesting. This ---ks.
I am the height of insensitivity and I have been called everything from "hate-monger" (which is true for I feel about terrorists and their dirty night shirts...I'll admit that) to an idiot.
But as I always believe..."Before you raise your voice, reinforce your argument!"
Keep in touch...I need your support as I will support you!

First of all, I would hate to see you leave Old Dan. Your passion for the hobby and thought-provoking posts have been wonderful to have here.
As I understand it, there were several people involved in the situation that is causing this problem. In other threads, there was some name calling by VARIOUS people. I refuse to point the finger at any one person. Things then got out of hand (which will happen every now and then.) Name calling and personal attacks are not permitted on this forum as we all know. Though strong passionate feelings and opinions on this hobby are always welcome.
When Mike privately requested that these individuals edit their posts to remove the name calling, everyone did so. These posts are no longer visible in any threads because the original authors edited them.
As far as Mike and I are concerned, this issue is over. I fully support the emails and messages sent by him to the people involved and am very impressed at how each of you reacted in editing your own posts. Differences of opinion on the forum are not only inevitable, they are a necessity for interesting discussion; but how we react to these differences of opinion is more important than the fact that these differences happen.
I believe the members here to be my extended family and I don't want to see anyone leave. You are each special to me and I love your passion and opinions.
Dan, I am asking you to please give this some thought and reconsider. Your opinions and views will always be welcome here.

Zakgold, You probably don't want to know where I stand on terrorists and their religion. I would have a real quick trial and then eliminate the problem and if that didn't work I would start killing the weed by the roots. As for nations currently building or wanting to build nuclear weapons I would suggest the free world send them over some. That were pretty much end their desires after they see what a few can do. Bluntly put, all the educated nice guys (nations) need to can the politeness and rid the world of this disease, one way or another. It will have to be done, now or later!

Be careful Terry...that type of talk has gotten me in trouble in "other forums". The subject concerns me too as a terror attacks can and will hurt the free market (i.e., after 9/11 on Wall Street stock index) and that includes coin values as well.
After all, why collect Lincolns when their copper could be better utilized for shell casings (just like the 1943 cent). Think about it, coin collection values could easily suffer if we live under threat and fear of attack after attack. Why collect and trade when survival will be the order of the day?
But back to Old Dan...Dan, you have friends here (like me) that love a good "spicy" forum with differant view points. I never take personal comments made to me "personally" as it is hard to read between the lines...sometimes.
After all, if you can't make negative comments to my face, then the heck with you. So I just let it roll right off my back.
Who said the "pen is mightier than the sword?" Let it go Dan and just charge up your batteries for the next fight. That's what I do.
I don't look for fights, but I do love a good discussion (i.e., like Liberty should be on our dollar coin, but that's just me)

From what you say that would not be a repremand IMO,, and my initial post to what dan said would no longer be appropriate. I for one agree that calling names and implying Intellegence levels of other forum members is and should be out of line .
We are all at different levels of knowledge, we have many and varied interests. and a very diverse group !!
The older collectors like Dan have been and seen many things that the younger group will never see, and that knowledge is extremely important to the generation next of coin collecting, there must be a way to share that without all the BS.

Old Dan, what have you been up to? [:0] You old Rascal! LOL.[:p] Have you been calling a spade a spade again? (Please note: that is an expression of “saying it how it is” and not a racial slur) In this political correct world of walking on eggs and libel lawsuits, you just can't continue exercising your freedom of speech like that! Freedom of speech seems only for the radical haters of this world and were told, we must defend their rights to spread their venom. While decent people should mind their P’s & Q’s and keep their mouths shut, so not to “possibly offend” someone. Dan, I’m from the old school too. I have been reprimanded for things I say. Big Deal. It’s water off a ducks back. Don’t take it to heart. I believe you have a right to say what you want. If you enjoy the time you spend here than stay and enjoy it. Others have the right to say what they want also, and can send a reprimand. Send a reprimand back to them if you want too. LOL. But keep in mind that this is “a family coin forum” and not a “public arena”. If you have to walk on eggs to stay here, well that’s the price that we all must be paid. I have seen other Internet sites where the moderators have not held such a strict control over personal remarks. Let me tell you, those sites are horrible to go to. They are full of all sorts of nasty words and remarks. So if on this site you’re not allowed to use the word “Idiot” so be it. The moderators here are holding us all to a very high standard. I don’t mind these rules because I really only want to talk about coins anyway and as long as I stay on subject, I don’t get in trouble. So keep posting about coins and leave those fish alone. You’ll get in trouble with the environmental people if you go fishing for “sport”. From you friend in Australia, toast

I missed the edited posts, so take that into account as I write this. Dan, I think you know that you are a valued member of the community. I appreciate your posts and insights, and if you must leave, you will be missed. I obviously haven't read Mike's messages to you, but I know that he puts his heart and effort into this community, and I know that he is a reasonable, generous person. words on a forum such as this (or email) are stripped of their context. Infection, facial expression, tone of voice are missing. Sometimes folks forget that- and folks will write things that they would never say to someone face to face. errorcoins- I know you are passionate about errors, and take time to note and photograph them. We're discussing coins here, not civil rights, health, education, politics, religion, or anything else that truely matters. If you feel Dan doesn't value your coins, take his statements with a grain of salt. There is no right or wrong regarding opinions about which coins are interesting or how they are labelled or defined. Many things in life matter. Whether or not someone agrees with one regarding a particular coin isn't one of those things. You posted this in another forum "So I'm lying....unbelieveable! BTW I'm not
It is possible. It HAPPENED!!!!!!
I'm done with this forum anyway....like pulling teeth...no fun.
I'm a pro photographer, check out me website. Copyright protection is extremely important to me. No way I made this up.......I am not going to hurt my professional reputation by lying about a copyright on a coin forum, NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!"
This makes me inclinded to think you may have a thin skin. I also find it interesting that you are posting at cointalk again after that statement. Feel free to disagree with that observation, but don't mess up my community.
This place is a gem. Lets all take responsibilty to keep it that way. As always, this is one man's opinion. Feel free to disagree, ignore my words, to post or to write me an email. Don
