I have just received a letter from

"National Collector's Mint, Inc."
Offering me
"Silver dollars with a guarantee of Value"

Yesterday I threw out an offer from Littletons for 30 unc State Quarters

Did any one else get this wonderful offer from "National Collector's Mint, Inc."?

Why aren't you running right out and taking advantage of this great offer.
I especially liked the insert card that states
" SILVER PRICES GOING UP TO $125 PER OUNCE?

Oh don't forget the other offer for the nutritional supplement!

I love coins it is the scams I don't like

I don't get the ads in the mail (knock wood), but they do show up as full page ads in my local newspaper.

Silver dollars struck by a real mint or "silver dollars" with a drive-by spray job of silver plating?
Rest in Peace

Years back, I bought a few coins and a lot of albums and books through Littleton. I stopped when they started sending out unsolicited "Coin Pacs" like a book of the month club. I asked to be taken off their mailing list but every so often a Littleton "rob the new collector" book shows up in the mail! This Company has two distinct faces to say the least! Mike

The best method to not be scammed is arm yourself with knowledge!!!

ebay is a dangerous place for a new collector, and can be even for a seasoned collector,, know what your buying, read the ad carefully and completely, avoid high shipping like the plague,no return policy !! no purchase !!! restocking charge on returns !!! all of these are red flags !!!!

there are many more, check out the ebay discussion forum !!! by the way you can always ask us for opinions on auctions you maybe interested in!!!

I get the mail coin ads at the rate of about one a week.

The latest was one "offering" Statehood Quarters. Yep, they will soon be gone, never to be minted again. Entire set from beginning through 2005, just $125. An heirloom to be passed down from generation to generation.

Week before that it was Morgan dollars. Over 100 Years Old! Their choice of date and grade. $25 each. So it goes.

Often times the ads are beautifully done, great pictures on nice quality paper.

Obviously, the uneducated get taken for a ride.

The aforementioned examples are far from the worst I've seen.
