Yes, here is a big hint...
Trust your own eyes, and instincts first...

About six weeks ago I was perusing my latest issue of CCN when I noticed the Trends editor had raised the price of the 1871h OBV1 for seemingly no other reason than the fact that it is rare.None had recently been sold and I believe only three in the last six years. I knew instantly that this could mean only one thing, there is one for sale.Sure enough there it was in the upcoming Bell Toronto Coin Expo Auction catalogue. Coincidence?

I wonder how many misattributed ones exist?

At least four of the nine known. Odds are the other five are misattributed as well.

so what did the latest one from the Bell To sell for or what was the start price...Was it in fact an Obv 1. On another note about the Old boys club...YES I have been a victim of this myself, and I am sure many others aswell.

The coin I posted here is the one from the Bell auction. All in with taxes, shipping etc. I paid about $210 for this coin. Hard to tell from the auction pics if it's OBV1 or 2, but I knew from my past experiences that it was OBV2 and bid anyway as I just had to have it. http://www.icollector.com/Lot-of-Tw...ts_i20498704

So whats next send it back to ICCS tell them they are wrong and ask them to repay you as it is their mistake that cost you that money..

That'll be one thing I'll try for sure artdio. But later. I have to get $210 of educational and entertainment value out of this coin somehow.

Have you thought about writing an article for the CN Journal on this enigma?

Yes, send it to ICCS, have it corrected and they should reimburse you if you paid too much. Do this for the hobby.

Zonad that was suggested by artdio on the previous page and replied to above. Quote: Have you thought about writing an article for the CN Journal on this enigma? SPP, I detect a note of sarcasm. There is no mystery here, rather the story of the MAS that dominates this hobby in Canada and its apathy and indifference to collectors. Four of the nine 1871H OBV1's are OBV2's, the other five almost certainly are as well. Yet given this coins rarity no dealer, auctioneer, or cataloguer has ever bothered to examine one of these. You know full well that this story does not belong in The Journal and the reasons why.

No sarcasm was intended. I was serious... I was too succinct perhaps, because I envisioned a proper article on the different obverse markers, and how current examples certified to date, are, in fact, incorrectly attributed. If you stick to the facts, nobody will be offended.

The emperor's new 1871H Obv 1, huh?
When a prediction that all are misattributed is put out there, the immediate question is: Does 1871H Obv 1 exist?
We are collecting a lot of "NONE EXIST" lines in Charlton and Trends.

This thread has been a good learn..if DBM writes an article I'll be looking forward to reading it as many others would too.
