1, and its 20 miles away. I don't even bother going to it anymore, overpriced and only open half the time.

Quote: There are no coin shops in the entire U.K.? Really? I live in Northern Ireland. The UK is made up of four separate countries. England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

I live in East Kent and my nearest coin shops are 70 miles away in London. There were two shops in Canterbury, about 15 miles away, but they closed a few years ago. There is a local Antiques Market with a dealer who has a few coins, but his selection is limited and the coin stall is only open on Fridays and Saturdays.

We have 4 not including the pawn shops in our city of over 250,000. It's a competitive market here and most coins are picked over. Even the junk silver and foreign bins are picked over. That's why I search them out when I vacation. Even our Coinstars seem to be monitored by collectors.

We've got 5-6 dedicated coin shops in the immediate area of about a million people here in Salt Lake, plus a few more if I wanted to drive 30-60 minutes to neighboring counties. I can hit 4 good shops within a 5 minute detour of my regular commute home, so that's kind of nice. They all seem to specialize in something a little different so I like frequenting all 4. I generally end up finding good coins or silver locally for less than I could buy on ebay or online at APMEX, etc.

There are a couple in my hometown. One retail location that is easy to get to and a couple "by appointment" places that I haven't hit and a couple more within a 30 minute drive. Annoyingly, coin shops tend to be tucked away and finding a good one often feels like a scavenger hunt. I always seek them out when traveling and have found a few in Northern Michigan. My local LCS is run by a guy that could be the brother of the Comic Book Store owner from The Simpsons. Nice enough but not warm; not a lot of "deals" but does sell enough ASE's to lower his premiums when not cought out.

4 I think. One I haven't visited yet. There was one only about 10 minutes away but they closed two weeks ago :-( I hated to the small independent business close. They were nice people.

three coin/bullion stores with in a 20 minute drive not including gold/silver/pawn store but there are also 3 flea markets with 5 to 8 vendors at each. And a few coin clubs with auctions.
silver and gold are more popular down here so the flea markets and one lcs ar better for a variety collector like me

I'm travelling around Australia at the moment, and visited a local coin shop yesterday. Downtrodden, dirty â€" untidy - mess and litter on the floor. Limited and overpriced stock. Some stock without prices and assistance had no idea how much to charge. How do these places survive?

There are a few small coin dealers within 40 miles of where I live, but amazing to say I've sold much more to them than I've purchased from them

Still in Australia. Frustration. Spotted a large Antiques and Collectables store advertised â€" open 7 days 9 â€" 4. Thought I might be able to find something in coins. Drove for 50 mins and arrived just after 3 pm to find the place CLOSED. Guess I should have phoned ahead...... Dont these guys want my money

Only two in my immediate area, but they only deal with US coins and bullion, while I only collect ancient and medieval coinage.

There's about half a dozen good ones in a 20 mile radius by me in the ft lauderdale, fl area. I'm sure there's more but I'm really happy with 1 and that's where I go mostly.

I have one near by that is a "coin" shop and advertised as such. I walked in one day and asked if they had any world coins, specifically Newfoundland or old Canada stuff. I was informed that world coins really don't have any value so they don't stock them. But the do have plenty of bullion. There are/were a few other dealers who also focused mainly on bullion. If I ask around enough I sometimes find people who have a small selection of world stuff to look at. So, I do most of my searching/purchasing on forums, ebay, etc online.
