I will be giving coins to my grandaughter for Xmas. She is 10 and has been collecting since she was 7.

I bought my 7 yo son Two Cents for Christmas. A worn 1876 IHC, and a nice 1909 LMC. |

I got my 2 kids each a Canadian War of 1812 set and a State Quarter date set. Our house is built on an important US battle field from the war of 1812, so it will be interesting to see what the kids think of the Canadian coins. |

I'm hurt. I didn't see my name on anyone's list. And here I've been planning sending all of you Gold Coins.   Every year and for possibly 30 years I've been giving relatives and friends a Uncirc set, a Proof set and a copy of the latest Red Book for Christmas. |

Giving my father a few silver rounds for Christmas. He wants to accumulate some silver but other priorities always get in the way so I try to get him a few ounces for Christmas, birthday, and father's day gifts.

Don't now if you have any coin shows in your area but at one of the shows by me a dealer always has all sorts of Silver items. By that I mean Silver Bullets, either a .45 or .308. Also, today he had Large Silver Mercury dimes and Silver Lincoln Cents. About the size of an Ike dollar. He had other large Silver coins but just decorative types. |

For our Secret Santa exchange at work, I was going to give a 1974 Blue Ike (still in its mint seal with the blue token, but not the envelope since that was about shot) that I had laying around, as the person I had is a sometime coin collector. Ultimately decided not to though.
Gave my father-in-law a 1971 Blue Ike last year.

It is worthwhile giving kids some interesting and less valuable coins for Chrisrmas, as a side gift.
You never know, they take an abiding interest in coins later on in life.
An established coin collector will have very specific requirements for additions to their collection.
That is, unless they are silver stashers. In this case it matters much less what designs happen to be on the coins.
I have a reasonably extensive specialist World coin collection, and so I have very specific requirements that would be far too much of a problem for any to get a particular coin for me.
My strategy therefore, is to be non numismatic in my requirements, and to make it easy for those who would wish to give me gifts.
I have established a Christmas tradition, to be the same every year.
1. Macadamia nuts
2. Good quality 50% dark chocolate
3. Guiness
I think they are 'Christmasy' sorts of gifts, and I can share them with the giver, much to my own joy.
I have to earn what remains of my Guiness, by enjoying it after mowing my lawn on a hot day.

Although this doesn't fall under Christmas gifts....both of my sisters are pregnant and due within days of each other this coming summer. I plan on giving a 2015 Silver Eagle to each of the babies to commemorate his/her birth. I did the same with my own daughter last year. |

When my nephew was about 8, I gave him a BU Morgan dollar for Xmas. He took one look at it, smiled, ran over to his dresser, stuck the coin inside the top drawer for safe-keeping and closed it. That was about 20 years ago. I wonder whatever happened to it. Edited by jpsned

My son in law, a hugh baseball fan, will be getting the Hall Of Fame silver dollar I stood in line for in Baltimore last March.
