My favorite purchase this year is this 1861-O Half Dollar. I was told by the seller that this example was struck by the State of Louisiana after secession, but before the Confederacy controlled the mint. It has great original skin, and I had it slabbed (PCGS XF45).

My favorite numismatic purchases of 2014 also happen to be my three slabbed coins.

However, my #1 favorite out of the three is my 1882-S Morgan dollar certified MS-64 by NGC. It's my most expensive, most valuable, highest grade, and one of the most beautiful coins in my entire collection. I also bought it at my first coin show. I'm very proud to call this the centerpiece of my collection...

My most satisfying purchase was a Luigino with a 1669 ottoman countermark on it. It filled a gap in my collection. From the late 1660st time there are three known ottoman mark on Luigino, I already had two of the three but was missing this one. The bonus was that the base coin is also reasonably rare

For me the 1945 Canadian silver dollar AU58. Now I just need the 1947 maple leaf and the 1948!

Although I made many purchases, nothing comes to mind as being a favorite or even anything great.

This particular coin (variety) filled a HUGE gap in my Eisenhower dollar registry set.

Filled a big gap in my complete Libertad collection and started a short set that I have wanted to collect.

Picked up this 1991 Libertad in an online auction when it was listed as a 1991 Libertad, as I looked closer I realized that it was a much more rare 1991 Type II. On the obverse you see OnZa as opposed to onza on a regular 1991. On the reverse the cactus under the left claw of the eagle has 8 dots as opposed to the regular 7. Apparently I was the only one who noticed because I picked up the very hard to find coin (two of which are available on ebay for $140 and $135) for $22 , the cost of a regular 1991.

Also went to an auction with my son to pick up a few more ASE's for his NGC MS69 Brown label collection but people were bidding stupid money for those. Instead picked up this ,one of a short set of four Canadian Enameled dollars, for $42 (original list in 2007,$130 )

Nice coins everyone!

Krusti-Koin - That is a fantastic Seated Half!

yarm - There is so much depth & detail on that reverse that you almost feel like you are physically standing in St. Peter's!

Thanks Joe! I am really happy with this half. I didn't buy it from a dealer, but a fellow collector who was selling off his collection. He was assembling a set of 1860's halves, and he was very knowledgeable. I want to study the die varieties to try and determine for myself when it was minted. I find the 1861-O Half to be a great story coin.

It was more trade than a purchase, but a nice piece for melt, with COA and box.

Not a part of any serious collection, I rescued this British Half Penny from the foreign coin bucket. I learned a good deal about conservation and verdi gris removal, as well as copper photography. May be the best fifteen cents I've spent in a while.
