i don't keep track of what I have, too much to inventory and would take me several weeks to itemize the list.

The closest thing I have to computer organization is want lists for my albums. Indirectly this tells me what I do have if I reverse it.

I use excel, and my better coins are in 2x2 flips inside a plastic organizer case.

Spreadsheet. You cannot go wrong, whether it is Microsoft Excel, LibreOffice Calc, or Google Sheets.

When I was a young buck in cub scouts I tried to get my collectors badge by showing my leader my stack of wrestling cards, he was unimpressed, and said I cannot call that a collection as you have not taken the time to organize it. The next week I brought in my little brown book that held about 5 or 6 coins in it. I showed him that and he said this may not look very substantial, but you took the time to organize these coins and catalog them. He then gave me the badge.
To this day I still believe that you are not a collector until you have some organization, until then you are just a hoarder.

I use Excel, simple and easy to manipulate if needed. I found a app called Coin Collection. Free and super handy when at shows and when I need to check if I have or dont have a coin in the collection. There may be some better ones out there but for free, it has so far done everything ive needed it to do.

OH and BTW, my 2015 resolution is to document my CRHing to actually see how much I search and what I find. I have 3 weeks worth of data, and I am amazed at what I actually do. I have been on the fence on getting software to actually organize my collection. I would prefer a web based site, but the only one I found was not useful.

Access has allowed me to Search by Bank, Date, Mint Mark, Key Dates, Mintages, list goes on and on. I have added over 800 lines of data the last few weeks.

For me it's simple. Just check out my website. I am able to upload my photos to my site produce a page for each coin. Over time I'll enhance the details of each coin. I call it a labor of love. It allows me to stay entrenched in my collection.
