There is a flea market I usually attend to on Sundays. Every now and then I find some silver, when I buy it's at or below spot. Not much at a time, usually just a small silver coins worth under the dollar. Also, I go hunting for modern coins I want. Sadly, I haven't been getting much lately as I feel like I've clean the place from interesting stuff, so I'd love to find a weekly market.

At my local flea market there is a serious LCS with a dealer who is very knowledgeable about coins - he prices them fairly and I have bought quite a few things from him, but you never get a real bargain. There is another general dealer who usually has a few coins in a glass case. A few weeks ago he had an AU 1960-D Franklin half priced at two pounds and an EF 1976 Type II Ike dollar for five pounds! You can guess which one I bought!

One more flea market hunting story: I, my brother, and a good buddy was at a local flea market about 6-7 years back. My brother was hunting comic books to back fill a collection and any current or vintage toys (Marvel and DC). My buddy was hunting used video games. I was walking about the flea market looking around, not expecting much, but a good walk before we go for lunch. The previous week we hunted pawn shops. Anyway, I passed a senior fellow, look like he was in his 70s, who was asleep at his chair in front of his table. A table filled with ladies nick-knacks, old suit cases from the 50s, and other display case garbles piled on top of each other. As I passed by, looking around at his table, the seller awoke and said, "Excusez-moi monsieur, ce qui est d'interęt pour vous?" I apologized and replied my French is not that good. He replied back politely, "Excuse me sir, what is of interest to you?" I replied that I was interested in old Canadian coins. Silver is preferred. So the seller finds an old suit case, looked like from the 40s to 50s. Opens the case, then pulls out a large cosmetic case. Inside the cosmetic case, he pulls out old 2x2 Mylar holders, that contained 3 king Edward VII 5 cent and 2 King George V 5 cent coins in about F+ to VF+ condition. (I honestly can not remember the years). I also happened to NOT bring a loupe with me that day. I thought why not, I was not anticipating anything here today. I paid just under $18.00 dollars for them. The seller later said he had some more coins, 5 cent, 10 cent, and commemoratives, and will bring them next week. So I accumulated a few more commons coins from him. I later got busy at work and was working paid over time and some weekends. When I went back to the flea market, he was gone and I have not run into him since.

In general, over the years I've found the pickings at flea markets and swap meets to be pretty slim. In coins, it's mostly the kind of stuff that ends up in a shop's junk/bargain bin. Other times it'll be modern forgeries, which is why I take besides a loupe (which I aways have in my pocket) a magnet & pocket scale. I have found worthwhile foreign currency in such venues, though. My swap meet & yard/estate sale "kit" -

Hey there, AgCoinAu, I did not realize you are a pegger too.
The photos were taken at the Mulvey Flea Market. The seller gave me permission to take a few snapshots, and he should be there tomorrow, too.
Thirsty's Flea Market has some antique, including some coin and paper auctions on some Tuesday nights, but I have never been to one.
Though when I first started coin collecting, salivated on the viewing table.
You have a good hunt. Hint: Bundle and ask for a discount!
Cheers!

Sifu: I can't buy any more.. fact is I've really been thinking of taking a table at a flea market myself in hopes to unload a bit and perhaps talk to some like minded individuals in this city. On that note if you ever do want to sit down some time and talk coins... please feel free to shoot me a PM.. first beer/beverage is on me!

Flea markets and swap meets area great place to look for coins. You just have to know where to look. Usually vendors with lots of jewelry have a bowl of coins somewhere that come with bulk jewelry lots they purchase. Also anyone that regularly has coins, get in good graces with them as they will most likely hold coins for you before anyone gets a look at them. I've found quite a few rarities at my local swap meet. I have my own thread if anyone is interested in taking a look. https://goccf.com/t/176716

Well that's a tough one... the lighting is a bit "off" with your shots... the back ground looks pinkish and so do the coins.. like you have it on a sepia setting or something...
To me they look like they're VF or EF's for the most part.. but perhaps better shots could change that to an AU all depends if there's any luster left.
As for value... my guess would be somewhere between $1 and $5 each.... I really don't know though.. I've never sold any of my newfies... don't much plan to either.

Thanks for the reply, I don't know what a sepia setting is but the pictures were taken with a celestron 5mp digital microscope.I had the led lighting off as I find it isn't a nice evening lighting, just had the room light on. Don't really have any intention of selling at the time just curios, I figure I got a pretty good deal no matter what, only paid $2 and was mainly buying the book
