I know nothing about gold, but that coin just looks real to me. Lots of nice die cracks on the reverse. Somebody please save me from myself.

Wait a minute...$400 for a coin that MELTS at $1180 (current price)? Yeah, I'd say either a) uninformed at the current price of gold; or, b) fake and trying to scam you.

I wouldn't buy unslabbed gold with YOUR money...let alone mine.
That being said, I don't see anything screaming "fake" based purely off of your image.

The pictured coin is genuine. If it's being offered at $400 then make sure it's a safe transaction, very safe.

Just make sure you record the coin coming out of the package. Could be bait and switch.

Does it contain milk chocolate or dark chocolate?

Im staying away from that one....I just did an Internet serch for "USA Twenty D. Gold Coin 1875 KDNS" Here is the exact same coin with winning bid of $2,000 from 26 Dec 2014. This is wrong....it is clearly a fake http://www.ebay.com/itm/USA-Twenty-...271711058931

It's not just the same coin, it's the same pictures.

Well would you look at that. A genuinely damning observation. My money is on a bait and switch at this point. Those pictures as the bait, and something like this as the switch: http://www.theblackcabinet.org/coun...1885cc-0001/Run -- do not walk -- away from this.

If I was offered this coin at that price and I did not know anything about gold coins I would not even think about buying it as I know if it were genuine it is worth multiples of his asking price simply because my inclination would be it is either a counterfeit or a stolen coin and I would not risk getting involved in what that might lead to.

Why would someone give away something intrinsically worth $1200 in precious metal for $400? It's like saying...here's a $20 bill, please give me $7 for it.

Great point Prethen. This is clearly a scam. I would stay away from it and contact ebay (assuming it's listed there) of the issue. Scammers are becoming more sophisticated and it's obvious how much money is in rare coins and precious metals. Be very careful. I am sure you heard of the old saying... it's too good to be true. Another recommendation is as what CoinCollector2012 said. Ask to send to grading service (NGC/PCGS). Your offer is contingent if it returns good. Offer to reimburse for grading too.
