Ebay is just a tool for the seller...it is not "an ebay problem" but a seller problem.

ebay serves as a conduit whereby such items achieve far easier and wider international distribution than was ever before possible. If ebay takes the attitude that they don't care what their sellers put on the market so long as they get their cut, then they're complicit and have become a part of the problem.

I can't argue with that....especially since I reported the item as an unmarked fake and they still have it up for sale.

No, it's an ebay problem. They dissolved their Counterfeit Detection community group and removed their counterfeit specialists on staff.

They simply don't care anymore.

And that violates the "known or should have known" clause of the HPA/CCPA.

The one thing that I have like with ebay is that if the coin arrives and is fake, cleaned, etc, then they will let you use the buyer protection. The majority of the time you end up getting it for free if there really is something wrong with it.

Now, that's only IF you identify it as a fake in time...

Keep on reporting this stuff, guys. You're building the legal case against ebay with their own channels of communication. They'll be providing the evidence which convicts them, with these filed reports that prevent them from saying they didn't know.

True, the new version of the hobby protection act makes anyone who knowingly assists in the sale of fakes liable as well. So the record of the reports can be used as evidence that they were informed and were complicit in the violation.

How can they not see this coming? Their legal team must think they know something that we do not.

This dude has been selling all kinds of fake coins including the recent Baseball HOF coin...key word is "selling"..Ebay has no intention of intervening.

Always calls them "souvenir medals"..wonder what the reseller will call them

Same seller with the same sort of problematic merchandise:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Plated-Gold...t_295wt_1153

Despite a fair amount of his stuff being evidently fake, his customers consistently give him positive feedback. I'm doubting whether ebay will come down on him.

Of coarse they do. They are intentionally purchasing a counterfeit that is potentially resellable @ nearly 10x profit for less than $6.

I bet they are absolutely thrilled @ the prospect of ripping off a 3rd party for a tidy profit & this seller is their key.

Exactly!

..and that is (was) the reason for the ban on any replica coins that are not marked "copy" or "replica". ...but, they seem to have rescinded that idea

This is a knock off version of the 2008 Bald Eagle $5 gold commemorative.
