Questionable or not I love the color on it with the contrast of a copper back ground. I'd love to own one like that. If it were me I'd pay the $20 just to make the graders scratch their heads... either way if u send it in or end up selling it let us know... Nice one, even if altered Imo

SsuperDdave... pardon my asking but I'm rather new to some of the nomenclature around here; what is an "AT" coin?

An AT coin is one who has had chemicals added to the surface to unnaturally color (tone) a coin. They are considered damaged and are worth less. Copper does not naturally tone to the slew of rainbow colors on the 1906. The 1892 is a perfect example of what a "natural" copper Indian cent should look like. On a side note, has anyone noticed the lump under the ear on the 1892? What Snow #, if any, is it?

ya I know dave but she's just so darn colorful and u know I like me sone color. I was being somewhat facetious but I'd still like to have one like that just to look at. Don't know why, maybe it's the "monster" colors against the copper background
... rynegold: AT is "Artificial Toning" meaning it was done deliberately, with the express purpose of experimentation or out right fraud to deceive... as opposed to NT or "natural toning"

I'll be interested to see if the 1892 grades with no details. Has some pretty good scratches and rubs.

A coin is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it...and I think the AT is beautiful on this coin ! Natural rainbows are best, but this one is a beautiful and I would probably spend "a pretty penny" on it, just saying !

Ahhhh... the horror SD, the horror! But seriously, looking at that stuff and the idiotic titles and descriptions makes me queezy... especially after you start learning true color spectrum progressions it all just screams crap!

Quote: Natural rainbows are best Other than a few select proof coins I have almost never seen a "natural rainbow" on a bronze Indian Head cent and I have been collecting mint state Indians for over 20 years.

So in this vein of "AT/surface cleaned; altered" discussion, may I ask what you good folks think of this coin: I found it on ebay and was wondering if it appears to have had some treatment of some sort. I'm sorta interested in the coin actually myself.

If you sent the 1906 to any grading service (that's trusted), it'll probably come back as UNC Details Questionable Color.
