There should be lots of extra claw varieties in that batch.

Ken...if you had a clear schedule in front of you, how long do you think it would take you to go through all the coins you mentioned above?

Ken, thanks for the generous offer. I checked and I do have '61 hanging 1s, so I'm good for that date.

chadcoins\koinpro:

"Extra Claw" varieties? I haven't heard of that one -- is it known by another name as well? If not it sounds interesting and I'd love to see a photo to know what you're talking refering to. A variety of extra spine perhaps?

Extra claws on the beavers hind foot. There are many variations.

Thanks, chadcoins. I'll have to look around and see if I can find any of those. Are they found on many years? I don't really collect nickels but it might be interesting to have an example or two.

Here is a 2006 5c with Extra Claws, etc. This occurred to the master die and as such all working dies were affected by this doubled die. One could say it's "normal" for the date. The image below is of a 2007 with normal design.
I think I've seen five or six different Extra Claw varieties on different dates. My guess is there are many more. These are what I call "Centralized Tilted Hub Doubled Dies."

2006 five-cents with Master Die Doubling that can seen on all 2006 five-cent pieces for this year struck in all formats.

This is a 2007 five-cents with a normal design for comparison.

Thanks for the info, Ken -- and great pictures too. I have a jar of nickels that I've found in my change; maybe I'll be lucky enough to find an extra claw in there.

I was just looking through my 2006s and had to search for that article about the doubled die since every one had those markers. Just picked up my first Cherrypicker's Guide too.
