If you go for it I suggest getting the keys first if you can afford them. They tend to jump in price faster than the common dates

I have heard that strategy before, makes sense. It will be a couple year project at least. What are thoughts on buying keys in a lesser grade than the rest of the set?

Quote: There is 1 VERY BIG show stopping Ike the likes of which will stop said show for quite some time. You won't find any hole for it though I disagree. This coin is an error, is not necessary, and does belong in a regular production set of Ikes.

Agreed. I do not collect any of the errors, just the major varieties. But if this one landed in my lap I would not throw it back.

Obviously I think that is a good plan.

Sweet!
I gotta ask... What are your plans moving forward? Are you just going to call this set done, and move on to other sets? Just call it a circulated set. OR, are you going to keep your eyes peeled for nicer examples and slowly upgrade coins, an ongoing process until you have an UNC set?
I tend to finish my sets, then casually upgrade to the best examples I find. It's a continual process, but I can technically say my sets are "done", even though I have some upgrades to make. Make sense?
Just curious...

I have scans of all the coins on my phone, and am still looking at every junk silver box around for upgrades. I am 7 coins short of my wheat cents being complete, so still working on that. My main focus right now is completing an uncirculated quarter set from 99 to present. I am considering uncirculated Franklin set or ms63/64 Peace dollar slabbed.

Two of my favorite Franklins: The Bugs Bunny clash: And one I know some people hate them, but the hobby is about fun and I like this next coin. The mint was going to issue 1964 Franklins, but JFK's assassination altered that. So Daniel Carr took some legit Franklin halves and struck them with a with a 1964 date. . I have learned the Bugs Bunny is not only on the 1955, so I may start looking for the other ones also. It just makes more fun b/c there are more things to hunt
