I used to work in a beer distro warehouse - those old style kegs can get nasty if they weren't cleaned out properly. You may want to wear some gloves when dealing with those cents in the old keg unless you are certain that it was well cleaned prior to putting the coins in the keg.

Thanks for the info Jake. Do those old kegs themselves have any value? I'm debating taking an angle grinder to it

Good story ray but I must say how technically worthless his ambition of a retirement plan was. $13,000 goes very quickly and isn't really enough to reinvest for short period gains. I bet he wishes he collected quarters, or better yet SBA's

My guess would be somewhere between 10 Cents and one hundred thousand, plus or minus a few million.

How long ago did you start amassing these? I know that now the split is around 75/25, but I remember when it was closer to 50/50 and I'm not that old! 1980-82 saw some massive production of copper cents.
