If I had a couple more zeroes on the end of my fortune, I might buy a roll's worth and spend them on purpose! :)

At a bank I go to I always ask for Half Dollar coins. One day a teller handed me one of those Gold looking plated ones. I took it.

I received a few of these through intense roll searching, as in $1000 a week for a year.

That LCS reminds me of my younger days. My family and I spent a lot of time in Niagara Falls Canada. There was a little coin/stamp/souvenir shop at the top of Clifton hill. The shop had a random world coin box priced for 5 cents a coin. I used to get Canadian and US dimes and quarters out of it. His loss my gain.

If the date on the front was 1964-2014 then it's gold, if it not then its plated and worth face

Quote: If the date on the front was 1964-2014 then it's gold, if it not then its plated and worth face I'm quite positive that he is referring to the Kenned half dated 1776-1976. None were ever made of gold that year. Like others have said, it's really just worth fifty cents. However, there's no harm in keeping it if it looks nice to you. I still have a gold plated 1983 Kennedy half double-dated with 1960 & 1980 from "The Columbia Mint" which also is just worth 50-cents, but I've kept it anyways. I may have actually paid $2 for it.
