Ha! My problem is, he'll probably succeed!! As I neared completion of my Dansco 7070 set, I then started five sets so that I can continue "The Hunt":
1. Classic Silver Commem 50 Coin Type Set (now completed). Since these coins are out of favor, the prices available in the grades I wanted are very attractive compared to 10+ years ago, but have remained pretty steady for the past few years. CAC premiums tend to be small on these unpopular coins as well.
2. A Two Cent Set (Circulated coins, not Proof - now completed). Also not too popular, which keeps prices somewhat reasonable. Only 10 coins are needed in total for that set,
3. A Lincoln Wheat DATE Set - Since it's a DATE set, I can then keep the cost in control by choosing a less expensive coin for each of the 50 slots by avoiding the tougher branch mints, or Philly mint when that is tougher. That allows me to ensure that each coin will be RED and with a CAC. That's a trade off I'm comfortable with - fewer coins, but then allowing those fewer coins that are in the set to all meet my "needs".
4. A Franklin Proof Set - Only 14 coins in total are needed for that set.
5. A Standing Lib Quarter Full Head DATE Set. Only 14 coins in total are needed for this set. Like with my Lincoln Wheat Date Set above, this allows "completion" at a lower cost than a set with all mint marks for each date. For those interested in putting together a set like this but at lower cost, they can choose instead a 14 coin DATE set that allows (but does not require) FULL Heads.

Only a Date set? What about the rest of the Lincoln's
Just prefacing that this will be NOWHERE as nice as the set you are going to have
And then you have the Memorial, Commemorative and shield

I'm assuming you're going for the 1916 then? On the bright side it's not particularly tough in FH, just tough in MS.

@hfjacinto - I disagree. Perhaps you mean your set is "not graded by a TPG", or perhaps your set is "not as high graded"? As far as being not as "nice" as, that's where I disagree. All of us put effort, time, caring, and love into each of the coins we select, so I truly believe your set is indeed as nice as my set will be once completed!

@GrapeCollects - Yes, when I made the decision to do this set, I recognized the super high cost of the 1916 in FH in Mint State. That's one of the reasons I chose to do the DATE set of these, and not the "complete" set with every mint mark for every date. That 1916 MSFH will probably be among the top two coins in terms of cost within my entire collection. Most of my coins are four figures (MANY are only three figures), VERY FEW of mine are five figure coins.
