Most of the Canadian cents I have found in the US have been the older copper ones. The steel ones get caught in counting machines and rejected since we don't have steel coins here.

Just curious, how likely are you to find the 1943 US steel cents in everyday change in the US?

Not often but, it does happen. They are pretty beat up AG-G grade.

Time to export my unwanted coins! A bank teller at the biggest bank in the city once tried to convince me that they weren't valuable...then proceeded to ask me if I'd like to donate them to one of their charities! What?!

Rec'd two or three others over the past few days. Hardly ever see a Canadian nickel, dime or quarter anymore.

Found 10 of them in a $25 box I just sorted, mostly 1980's.

I keep in good with my credit union as they have a counting machine I use for not having to rolling change and it haves a magnet that gets all that stick she gives to me. Keep being nice to your tellers it pays a little at a time.

I have a 1982 right here on my desk recently acquired from change, in my pile of "now what the heck do I do with it". It has some kind of fungus all over it. I agree that the cent lives on here, but I seem to run into more Chinese coins lately than anything else.

Canadian cents 1996 and before are way more pure copper than US cents. Keep them. Almost %100. 99.9 to be exact

Not quite true, Canadian cents maxed out at 98% copper from 1942 to 1996. Before 1942 Canadian small cents were 95.5% copper which is virtually the same as pre 1982 US cents.

When I searched $25 boxes of penny rolls I was getting over 80 Canadians in each box.

I like this thread...
I am glad that the Canadian penny is still circulating...

I actually started collecting USA pennies after ours was discontinued, but with the poor current exchange rate, I am not state side as often, so finding pennies is REALLY tough for me :)

Seldom a week goes by that I don't find or receive a Canadian one cent in change. Have also received a few dimes and several quarters, no silver ones though.
