Getting stuff on a "whim" has almost always proved beneficial to me! Nice find no matter what it is, it's new to you!

The face looks a lot different in that picture, but the marks on it are the same. Definitely a 1928, but a details coin.

That is a nice find. You don't see many of those still in circulation today. Probably came from someone's change drawer by mistake.

Within the last 8 years my grandfather found an AU or MS 1936 in circulation. Back in the '80s he also found an 1886 Seated dime.

Why do these coins seem so worn at all times? From what I've seen it seems like silver coins have higher durability than these Buffalo nickels.

My explanation is that buffaloes just have many more design high points (i. e. about as high as the rim) which get more worn down, or maybe they just circulated a lot more.

The date is in low relief compared to the area around it, which is actually on the device (high) and not in the field (low).

Finding a 2009 is probably just as good as finding a Buffalo.

I disagree, I'm feeling toward G details. F coins would have a full date and not a partial; and the buffalo would not be worn into the rim.
