If I had a coin that valuable, I would for sure get it certified to remove all doubt and increase the final selling price. So, I'm very hesitant. What do you think?

No more than gambling on sending in your MOD sets in unopened to a TPG without looking at them. If you know you can sell them raw for $105 a set or you spend at least $50 getting them slabbed and they come back with hazy coins and only grade at MS68 and only sell for $100 you just lost $55.

This coin has the die marker.

However without seeing the reverse you can't guarantee the overall grade.

And by some dumb luck twist it might not be the FS-901 variety.

The coin sold for $4800. Say it had only sold for $3000. That is still good money.

What if the coin only grades MS64 or MS65 when all of the rest that have sold for big money are MS66 or MS67. The seller sells it for $5K if he is lucky.

Say he opens it up to check for the variety and it doesn't have it. Now he has a plain old 2000P Sac. He just left $3000 or $4800 or whatever on the table.

How does that old saying go? A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.

I'm sure that was his logic. If I was 100% it had the detailed tail feathers, I would have paid that. I think he left money on the table.

It's always interesting to see another one still in the original packaging. If I'm the buyer, I clearly have the budget and trust in shipping services to simply send it in to be certified the moment it hits my doorstep. It appears to have the polish marker, so it's pretty much a slam dunk - those which did not have the reverse lacked the polish marker. Depending on grade, it may not be super profitable if resold, but it's still a coin that commands a respectable price.

If I'm the seller, I'm pretty happy. $4800 is not a bad return, less the expenses on purchasing the thing in the first place.

The more I look at the packaging at the left side of the Cent, my gut says the Dollar coin was moved/tampered with just enough to view the tail feather's without opening the original packaging...
I would love to have access to the package and see for myself how much movement of both coins is possible, only because the space between both coins are not sealed...
For the new owner I hope it is the pattern and not a circulation strike..

Either that or he was a shill.

If he wasn't a shill I hope it worked out for him and was the real deal.

I doubt he was a shill. If he was, they paid a whole bunch of ebay fees for nothing.

If it was a shill buyer they could leave positive feedback and then the seller could cancel the transaction and get their fees back.

A lot of money for sure....I'm sure I wouldn't pay that much for one but I collect commemoratives and thats where most of my money goes.
