I think it easily makes XF details wise The light porosity doesn't really bother me much Not sure about the clip but I wouldn't be surprised if it was mint made. Nice find.

My first thought was PMD, but not really sure.

EF-40 Appearance with a possible planchet flaw.

I agree with EF details. From the photo, however, it is difficult to say just how even/smooth the surfaces are. Regarding the 'clip', my feeling is that it is either a planchet flaw, or some kind of damage. The radius of the missing section seems too small for a cent, or even a Half Cent clip. Still a high grade coin and worthy as such.

AU Details, there is way too much detail on the highest parts for this to be XF unless a TPGer net grades it down. As for the clip, I'm not really sure, first instinct was PMD but it's hard to tell.

Would nice photos of the rim in question aid in our quest to uncover the truth behind the "clip"?

I'm looking at a damaged AU+ Half Cent. Does not appear to be a planchet clip or flaw. The coin has rough surfaces also, which would net this coin to a rather low grade.

I already confirmed it is PMD on the "clip" Irregular shape and no tapered rims.

This could have just been a bad planchet, hard to make a determination without seeing it in hand.

Can't see this defect as anything but PMD. Detail is at least XF but the grainy surfaces are a significant problem. The Classic large cents are notoriously difficult to find problem-free. This piece might serve as a decent type example since it does offer a lot of detail. The price IMO should be maybe one-third of what a problem-free XF+ example would cost.
