Gyrene, I was just kidding
Looks like a really nice coin that I will never afford to own. At least not anytime soon.

If it's an MS69 in an NGC holder, then it'll be an MS68 or 67 in a PCGS holder; there are much better coin values for this kind of money. Pass.

I would disagree with you, as I often disagree with the whole "PCGS is a few notches above NGC crowd". This coin will likely cross at PCGS, at worst it will return a 68 or 68+. NGC and PCGS are practically equal IMO. The one coins I have seen a disparity between NGC and PCGS is in ASE's that are graded MS70 or PR70.

I don't think that it garner a 69 in a PCGS holder. I just did a quick search for MS69 Morgan PCGS...none...not even in the completed listings.

Nice coin nevertheless...and way out of my league.

PCGS has graded nine MS-69 morgans in total (One Prooflike)

And PCGS has certified 170+ of this issue in MS68, and those would be roughly $5K at retail; the 1880-S is one of the most available Morgans in really high grade.

"Buy the coin, not the holder."
At this price level, it still needs to be verified.

I'm guessing the seller is only using ebay for free advertising.

U.S. Coin doesn't need ebay for advertising. It is one of the premier coin shops in Texas. I used to go there almost every Sat. to drool on their display cases. The majority of my last 8yrs collecting came from them.

This is far...far from the nicest or most expensive coin they have in their shop.

I totally disagree with this also. They are equally the same at grading quality. Yes, many are under the mass delusion that PCGS is more stringent grader, so for whatever reason, they are willing to pay more for a PCGS coin.

The bottom line is PCGS has graded 6 1880 S Morgans at MS-69, one PL. NGC has graded only 5 1880 S Morgans at MS-69.

No reason why this coin is any less valuable in a NGC holder.

I left out the " ebay" in my search for ms69 morgans. I kinda figured that there were a few in pcgs overall. Thanks for the correction CB.

On ebay possibly, but you can check PCGS populations here:

www.pcgs.com/pop/

They have slabbed 8 total in MS69 and 1 in MS69PL for the entire series of Morgans so far. 5 of them were 1880-S, 2 1881-S, 1 1896-S, and the MS69PL is also a an 1880-S.

San Francisco sure had the nicest Morgans it would seem. Almost 2000 in MS67 and 200 in MS68. I've had a couple of MS67 in the past, compared to MS65 they are wonder coins, so imagine just how amazing a MS69 would be!

US coins in Houston is an coin shop that has been around for decades now. They are good guys, with an amazing array of coins from simple bullion to ultra high end coins like this one.

If you missed out on my posting of the last Legend Rare Coin Auction, now would be a good time to check it out; http://www.flipdocs.com/showbook.as...15766_892254

Some AMAZING Morgans in that sale, many from the Famous Jack Lee Collection.
