True, it is very nice to have family members into coin collecting. I was pretty bummed when my younger brother decided he was no longer interested in coin collecting. Luckily my wife ended up becoming more and more interested in the hobby. Shes kind of expensive to buy for though lol.
I do have a cousin who I exchange gifts with at Christmas who is into coin collecting as well. Been exchanging for some 5 years now and have yet to get him a coin (thought itd be to predictable to come from me lol). This year I want to get him something. Hes really into proof sets so I was thinking a 1964 and 63 proof set then a uncirculated morgan/peace dollar (he doesn't have either one of those)

My dad bought me my 1931 S LWC, my grandmother bought me a 1974 proof set, and my mother bought me a 2000 proof set (birth year). Oh, also by little brother bought me a 3 lbs bag of wheat cents and my older brother got me 2 boxes of pennies (found like 40 wheats in all!). That is all that my family have givin me. Now, I know some awesome folks here on CCF, and I have revived sweet deals and even some free coins/currency from some people. That being said all of my coins I have received are my favorite.

@ grr601 That is a really cool idea! I'm sure they will love it. A gift like that can really light the coin collecting fire, so to speak. Sometimes it can be hard to get into coin collecting when you are younger and can only collect from circulation. It wasn't until my grandfather gave me his collection, did I truly start showing interest in coin collecting when I was younger. There wasn't anything rare in the collection I received but it was something Id never seen before at that time. Some circulated Mercury dimes, foreign coins, and Barber quarter, still have them all to this day. @ davec13 Silver over candy? Yes please! Very cool ideas :) I can't even begin to say how excited I would have been to receive my first gold coin at a young age. I bought my first one at 25 and it set me back quite a bit XD

On a different coin forum a young kid of 13 said he never saw a 1943 Lincoln Cent. He said he lived in a farm land area so coin shows, coin stores, etc. are just not around. So I sent him 500 of them.

The coolest one I've received was an 1885 $5 gold coin. It was one that was given to my great grandma as an engagement gift back in the 1920's, and was never spent. Eventually it ended up with my dad before he gave it to me.

The coolest one I ever got was a big jar of about 10,000 wheat pennies from my Dad. It is what got me started on coin collecting at the age of 10 or 11. So it really wasn't one coin, but a big bucket of them.
Of course, as a kid, I cleaned them (ruined lots of teen S mint coins in the process), spent a few, eventually sold them when I gave up coin collecting and then wished I hadn't when I got interested again later.
I don't have them anymore, but they are the coolest because it was what started my on again off again (currently on again) love for collecting coins.

Two months ago my brother sent me an MS70 Silver Eagle for my birthday. He's in hospice care now, losing his battle with MS. That's my most special coin.
