Quote: Seems like something GR58 might have... Who me Sort of funny ... yes I have thought of putting a roll together. I guess that is sort of a long term project. I have so many projects going .. Things get side tracked from week to week. I think I have between 10 and 20 1996 W dimes. Some from broken sets, some still in sets. But I do wonder what I would do with a roll, if I ever make it to 50. Also working on putting rolls of Satin State Quarters. everyone needs a hobby .... Maybe Grandkids will like selling them ... 50 years from now. A month ago I seen a BU roll of 1893 Morgan's go through a LCS ... everyone was very impressed with that roll.

I only need 45 more to go to make a roll.

Hmmm I would like to know if all is what it is supposed to be. I would break open the roll and check then put them in a tube.

Don't put them in a roll, each should be in its own airtight. I have probably 15 or so at the moment. If I see em for 10$ or less I pick em up.

It would be an interesting roll to have, but I would never pursue it myself.

Every original 1996 mint set contains a W mint dime but fewer than 3% of them have a Denver cent with small lettering on the reverse. These cents are usually highly PL and can nearly be identified by this feature alone.
The '96 mint set has other interesting coins as well including significant numbers of other PL coins including half dollars.
It's a very underrated set and the dime is very underrated as well.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

I think it would actually be cheaper to buy the complete sets than to just focus on the dime. I just bought 10 complete '96 sets for $120.00 shipped. It doesn't make sense to me to just buy the dime at $12-$15 when I can get the entire set for the same price or less than just the dime.

Good point ....
I don't think anyone has mentioned if they are buying just the dime, or the complete mint set.
Most all the ones I have bought were in the mint set. Most of those I took out out the set, and dumped the rest.
I do have one in my Roosevelt Dansco, one in my 7070. Then I have Some in 2X2's, some in air-titles and some in roll. (When I say roll, most times I am meaning tube)
I would not have any problem with buying just the dime, but I agree in most cases buying the set is cheaper.

I have to agree with oober, these Roosie's are low mintage coins and should not be treated like a common clad dime. They belong in air tight holders and kept aside in one's collection.

The mintage for a 1996 W dime is 1,457,000 Right now they are not hard to find. Red Book has them MS 65 $20.00 Until they become harder to find and/or Roosevelt dimesbecome more popular, the price may not change much. In my opinion keeping BU or proof coins in quality coin tubes does not hurt them.

let a little air get to them and hopefully tone them up nicely. If everyone saves them, 65 and above will be the norm. You'll want to have something that stands out from the crowd.

Yes I do have to agree I always pick up the whole set when I see them for 15 or less. I usually try to buy multiples of the set at even a better price. The last time I picked up some of the set, I got the whole set for 11 each.
I do the same for 2009 mint set cents. But here usually only but the 8 cents in multiple lots.
Don't expect to price appreciation to even beat inflation, but it's about what we like correct?
You never know, if I can keep my grand kids interested in coin collecting and they keep their grand kids in coin collecting, they may be worth a nice return by then.

I like how you are thinking. If I can motivate my grandkids, to continue what I am doing, for their grandkids. And add to my collection. It might be a worth while collection. Well... or a nice hoard of coins.

1996 coins are enjoyable to me. It was when I graduated High School. It's pretty cool to have a "W" mint mark for that year! Maybe at some point I should hoard 1996 mint sets!
