IF I had to start over I'd simply not. I'd use the money to buy a Ferrari. Maybe two of them.
And still have money left over. Those Mercury dimes are not cheap.

Start over? You must be joking
I'm still updating the references on mine from the ' Y ' numbers to the 'KM' numbers. Thought about it ONCE and decided I needed a new truck instead of MANY new holders. Besides I've decided to computerize my collection and that's going to be a huge task; next task is to find some software that doesn't require a secretary. LOL

I've gone from Danscos to flips to slabs, now putting everything, regardless of value, into the Coin World Premier Holders. Got tired of the glare from the flips, and the cheap look of them, coins in different locations depending on media, and empty spaces in albums, so now it's all the same system.

I wouldn't use PVC album pages, that's for sure!

I'd have purchased a lot more Morgans when they were cheaper.

To organize airtights in a collection you should check out a CAPS album. You get get a stock title or design your own custom album.

For those who want to know more about CAPS albums, here are two threads with some good discussion (and photos)...

I can see me trying out a CAPS album in the future, just to see what they are like.

What would I have liked to have done different.

I think buying all the Dansco albums I have now sooner.
I would have more holes filled, if I had them when I was younger.

Methinks there will be a GR58 photo exposition coming in the not-so-distant future.

Well, I did just start over. I kept my Twentieth Century type set album and I am working on finishing my Nineteenth Century type album. I sold everything else.

Once both albums are finished, I intended to dedicate the rest of future collection to a "Box of 20" in order to hopefully build a first rate limited collection of coins.

At least, that is my plan right now...

Interesting thread. I *am* starting over. I decided to go to all 2x2's in a binder for my Dollar, and Halves, and 1.5x1.5's for my Quarters and smaller. A few factors that led to this decision...

- I am NOT a fan of Dansco albums. They look great from the outside, but I've had nothing but problems with PMD, streaking, fading, etc. When the plastic cover slides just a little, it exposes the coin. if I want to replace ONE coin, they all have to drop out to upgrade, just a big pain. And if I need to add pages and the book is full, I need to buy another book. Too expensive.

- Slabs are just too bulky - and expensive. Yes they're nice, and I have plenty of slabbed coins in red boxes, but I've actually contemplated cracking them open and moving them to 2x2s! I will only slab a coin or buy a slabbed coin if it's a rare/key date and/or I want to decrease the chances I'll end up with a counterfeit.

I have found over the years my need to closely inspect ONE coin, or show it to someone, or transport it, or organize it with it's brothers & sisters, it's just plain easier to put it in a flip, in a binder.
Rest in Peace

Yeah , I know what you mean about the problems with albums. I have Whitman albums and they have the same problems .
So for 85% of my collections I use 2x2 cardboard holders in 3 ring loose leaf binders. This works great for me. Easy access.

Never any problems with my Dansco albums. Only the Dollars are thick enough to have issues with the slides, everything else is thinner than the thickness of the pages. Yes, the reverse it touching the slide, but no reason to remove the rear slide.

But, it does takes some effort and may be more than it is worth. If I am being completely objective, I cannot think of any method more versatile than cardboard holders and pocket pages. I do use the twelve pocket pages (2x2 holders) made for Dansco binders to house the stuff that does not have a dedicated album.

My car is a classic, but it is a cheapie. Probably valued at around AUD $10,000, but the best ones in Europe can auction for more that 30,000 Euros.

If-You-Could-Start-Over

Only made a little over 400 of these. If I started over, I'd get a few more of these. And then have enough of them to haul my Mercury dimes around.
