Please tell me you are joking 1893S...you can see the apparent luster cartwheel from the first pictures posted on this thread...

It would take a to think this is anywhere near polished.

After buying, selling, and collecting Morgans since 1968 I know a polished coin when I see one. And I'm sorry sir if you do not like my opinion but I will say it again...polished...if you don't want our opinions then don't ask. I could care less if everyone else is foolish enough to believe that your coin was a MS65. And no, I'm not being a troll, just giving you my honest opinion as I thought you were a collector wanting one. I didn't realize you wanted to sell your coin and needed people on the board to back you up for selling purposes. How much did you pay for the coin, or is that to much to ask?

Also, CoinHuntingDrew....I consider your above post as offensive in regards to my opinion of the OP's coin. If you think making a post like you did is friendly as this forum is supposed to be then you may want to rethink.

Not all polished Morgans exhibit hairlines. Also, professionally polished Morgans also will show subdued luster as yours exhibited. When you've been in the business as long as I have, 46 years now, you can see a polished coin a mile away. I'm not talking harshly polished or whizzed. Just because someone who is a dealer gave you $900 does not really mean much. Some dealers aren't the brightest bulbs on the block. So...how much did you buy the coin for eric?

P.S. The new coin you just posted appears to be a very nice BU Morgan! And, not polished.

Eric, I don't know how to grade this series. My specialty skills for grading are Morgans and Large Cents. I grade my LC's by EAC standards, not TPG/commercial standards...Good luck with your pursuits.

That explains alot Eac Grading standards are much different then TPG for anyone who doesn't know Basically, EAC grading is an approach that is more conservative in general than market-grading or slab-grading. For example, an EAC member will not grade a coin in an AU50 holder as an AU if the coin has NO LUSTER! If the coin has AU wear but no luster, an EAC member would grade it as EF45 at best. And if there is a MS-graded coin in a holder that has mint state luster but also has a light rub from circulation or bag sliding, the EAC grade would be AU at best!

I'm going to have to agree with the opinion of 1893S regarding the surfaces on the originally posted coin; they just don't look right, too dull and lackluster to make me think they are unmodified in some way. The clear lack of any marks in the fields also shows this; there cannot be breaks in the luster if there is minimal/no luster remaining.

While the coin does look very clean, it doesn't look right and so either over-dipped/professionally polished has my vote too.

Eric,
My grading and assessment of Large Cents using EAC standards has nothing to do with my grading and assessment of Morgan dollars. They are two different animals. My collecting of Morgans started 30 years before I really knew what a LC really was. I've always used commercial standards in the grading of Morgans....Good luck!
