The older small white ANACS holders are very popular with some dealers and collectors. They could be a little funny in their terminology .Just make sure that your white holdered coin is NOT a PL. Sometimes on Canadian coins in these holders the Description will be "1956 Silver Dollar MS65 PL " this happened frequently on those holders. I send a fair amount to ANACS and their later yellow gold holders for Canadian Decimal are fairly conservatively graded and for the most part would easily cross to ICCS. Also you cannot beat the price as compared to PCGS. In my opinion Paul DeFelice and the gang at ANACS do a pretty good job. Definitely value for money.

It could be a possible PL coin.
Many early US slabs had the PL and MS coins graded incorrectly.
I'd be interested in hearing other people's thoughts on this coin.

I just blew up the Photo , Double eagle is right it is a PL coin and not a business strike IMHO. That said note the roughness and poor strike quality at the centres, especially the Canoe. This is quite typical for a 1956 Dollar either business strike or PL

@pacificoin and doubleeagle
I have a 56 PL coin and there is a big difference in the lustre to me when I put them side by side. The PL is much brighter and has that "mirror" finish that the MS does not have. I may have ICCS or PCGS look at it if I get antsy about it.
Thanks for input

I'd have ICCS look at it before PCGS.
Put masking tape over the Anacs grade and just simply ask them to identify it as being an MS or PL coin.
There's no way both Brian and Scott at ICCS will make an error with it.

I've heard from a dealer that 1956 Dollars were also sent back to the mint the get melted back down, making them even more rare, especially in high grade. If anyone has knowledge of that It would be appreciated to learn a little more about it.

The only Silver Dollars that were returned for melting is the issue of 1939 . Several were unissued and melted during the Second War years of 1940-44. The story of 1956 Dollars being returned and melted . Undocumented and fanciful at best . Ask the dealer for some hard evidence ?
