I found these references... David W Lange's "The Complete Guide to Lincoln Cents" states on page 83 that genuine coins "were coined from at least six obverse dies". That is footnoted with a reference to P. Martin's "Authenticating the Lincoln Cent" published by the ANA Authentication Bureau. Photos of the genuine dies are not provided.

@Go-Rebels, Not sure if it matters, but you have labeled the 6 dies 1 through 6, but your photo names number them differently. Is there any generally accepted numbering system for these six dies?

I noticed that too NSS. I was going to check that out before I posted them officially to the site but haven't gotten around it. If someone else wanted to do that, and maybe post some references, it wouldn't break my heart.

Is there any generally accepted numbering system for these six dies? Sorry, my numbering was not done with any intent to be consistent, meaning I pulled the coins from Heritage in a random fashion, labeling them 1-6 on my hard drive then tried to organize them in the order you see here. I have never seen another source for this study so I know of no other labeling/ordering by anyone else. I've read Lange's book from cover to cover many times but have never found an obverse die with a different mm position than the six I've posted. There may be another mm position that is very rare that I've never seen or another die that is different in an area outside that of the date/mm, but I've never seen one. I hope I only started the body of knowledge on this special coin...

I took your six photos, and sized them equally, and put them all in one graphic. ps - I found it very difficult to differentiate between the two in the rightmost (3rd) column.

Thanks for the pics (!) and I agree. In fact, compared to the SVDB, the 14-D die pairs are all remarkably consistent.
