It is Lincoln Penny. Although it is officially a cent, the mint has never shied away from using the term penny.

if LP does stand for " Lincoln Penny"...why do so many poster - have issues - when someone refers to them as a "penny"...not to mention that every $25.00 box I have gotten states right on the box "PENNY's"? ?

Quote: Well, I think LP1, LP2, LP3 and LP4 are product designations from the Mint as those appear on the white boxes issued from the Mint when purchasing rolls. I knew I had seen that before Here is a picture of a two roll mint box (LP4) I am back to LP means Lincoln Penny

Funny that the U.S. Mint would call a cent a penny.

It's just hard to believe no one knows the "true" meaning of LP. I'm hoping for lesson plan myself. At least that one has a good story to go with it.

One thing to be sure of. LP is the the product code the mint used for ordering the rolls of 2009 Lincoln cents.

I think "LP#" might stand for "LINE PRODUCTION" or a similar term. Relating to any or all designations, such as; time, machine lines, date, dies, or maybe line-pressure, and of course, Lincoln Penny with the # referring to the above designations. It must be a separation code in any respect, otherwise there'd be no mint population difference. It is weird that LP4 has such a great difference in its production population. Maybe those dies wore out or broke sooner than others. OR; it may have been holidays and vacations being taken. Who knows? Happy hunting all! Tony

I am certain that LP stands for Lincoln Penny. Although it is amusing that the mint refers to them as "Penny" when it clearly states on the coins "One Cent". But I would bet that more Americans call them "Penny" instead of "Cent".
