From this picture I would say it is a toned coin. Because it is a relatively recent issue it is likely artificial toning or some sort of environmental damage.

Can you describe what you believe is the 'error'. I can't tell anything from the out of focus photograph.

Other than a color difference caused by toning what is it we are supposed to see?

I found this coin while searching certified bank penny rolls! I have never seen a nickel that looks like this particular one and I have searched the net up and down and only thing I came up with is it was done on a copper planchet. Is this possible? Value?

It's possible. Check to see if the outer devices are falling off the edge.

Weight? Diameter? But I agree with coop. Looks like environmental damage.

Is it a nice purple toned nickel? Is is it red purple in orange color?

I wonder if it really was struck on a copper planchet, this will be interesting.

I'm thinking that it's just toning. If you look at the specimen I posted, you can't see the bottom of the bust and the devices fall off the edges where the rim would be. As other suspect, it probably toning or perhaps a copperplate, science experiment.

Your coin is the same size and weight as a normal nickel, I cannot see it being anything other than toning/staining/environmental damage.
