To me finding them is much easier than identifying them.

But identifying helps to train the eye even more. When you start of notice the differences in the different attributed dies, then you understand the spread created by the hubbing of the coins even better. For example; The 1972 doubled dies. They are all different because of differences in the way the dies were created. When you can look at two coins and ind every device the same, then you have a match. But until you see there is no difference, then it looks like two different dies. So examining closely is where the eye is really trained. I can remember how hard it was on the 1972p-1DO-003 and 008 to tell them apart. I made side by side images and that helped a lot. At first I though just the 'S's on TRUST were different, until I noticed the date shapes were different: So training the eye to tell what is different and what is the same is the start. It just takes patience to learn. (most of the time you just want to pull your hair out) LOL

Thanks coop, I understand. I have been going through each of the listings on coppercoins and no match so far (been through about half).
It figures that when you want Die Chips or Crack there are none to found.
Sorry for so many pictures I just put closer images of the reverse just in case someone saw something that didn't.

Maybe it's a new one? I haven't seen any markers with the crack from the 'E' in "ONE" to the shield. I do see it in your pictures now though. Quote: A light die crack from the shield to under the E of UNITED. Another light die crack from the tip of the shield running NNW EDIT: Oh, you mentioned a different location than I was looking, but I see the crack from 'E' in united to the shield and my comment still stands.

CoinsCents, the die dot between OF and AMERICA matches the one on the link I posted. Keep in mind that not all markers need to match to confirm an attribution, your coin is simply an earlier die state than shown on CC.

Congrats on your first DDO a nice one too its a best variety one too! looks exactly like a 006 the other dies are not too similar as its a best of variety strong one 3 out of 5 of the ones I have do not have those markers either Some only have the A die gouge can be found to the right of the lower D in GOD. Some only have dot in 0 of the date which is cut off in your pictures you might have this marker look at the area right of D in god

Thanks Ocala, it feels amazing - I was beginning to wonder if I would ever get one. Here are 2 more pictures of that area. There is a really nice one right smack in the middle of the D. I just can't get good clear closeups with my scope camera - so hopefully this will do. I have been looking between the 2 websites daily trying to figure it out.

It looks like the die crack on the head might be there: The blue arrows show the crack, the purple arrow shows circulation damage. Since the head has a high spot on the coin, if it was slid on a table/rough surface it may have caused these scratches that obscure the crack any further.

With that outside the D in god I think most here can agree you have enough matching markers and doubling to determine it's a 1do-006 or wddo-005 or ddo-002 anyway they are all same coin different die labeling system.

If you are still uncertain send it to Wexlers. It may be a new listing and for 4 or 5 bucks you can't go wrong. Good luck and hoping the best for you.

Congratulations CoinCents :D I thought I remember you finding maybe 2 2009 FY DDR pennies though. At least I am pretty sure you found 1 2009 FY DDR that you couldn't identify. Maybe you want to give that another shot?

Wow, you have a great memory - Yes, I have it stashed away because I got so frustrated trying to figure out which one it was. I'll find my old thread and continue on from there. Thanks for the reminder
