Someone else can pay $32,000 for the coin with the spot. I would never do it. I am not an advocate of grade-flation.

Exceptional example. Since the carbon spot is much too insignificant to detail this beauty, it does not affect the technical grade in the least.

Tech grade 64, market grade 65.

That coin sold for over $32000 too!

I think it should make MS66RD. I have a 65 and this one is a little nicer. Really nice strike and eye appeal

Lots of people pretty spot on here. Its graded MS65+, which if properly attributed at NGC would put this in the top 3 graded there. Ive tried to not buy coins recently, but could not resist on this one.

Now comes the second part....Do you think PCGS would cross this over? I have to pay the "guarantee premium fee" that they charge though, on top go normal grading fees.

Not sure what the point would be in a cross unless you think it's a 66 coin. I think CAC would sticker it, though.

That's a beautiful coin either way -- stunning original example of a tougher date. I can see why it got the +. The two minor carbon spots and the tiny nick above the eye might have kept it out of a 66 but not by much.

I don't see any point in spending the money to cross this one over to PCGS.

Before the grade was revealed and I looked at this one and said MS65 all day. I noticed the carbon spot and nick above the eye too, as mentioned by others, but otherwise it is gorgeous and hardly anything else detracts.

The carbon spot is very noticeable so I think it's a gamble to expect a 66 out of this on crossover. If you crack the coin out and blindly submit, the coin may end up 65 no plus and you lost a half point but gained the PCGS holder plus "pointed bust designation" and it basically holds same value as the 65+ in NGC no designation.

The big question is what's the price guide on 65 vs 66 say- if the price climb is very steep, might consider gambling and cracking it out and blind submitting for a 66. If it comes back 65, you could send it back to NGC and see if the will cross it back to 65+ and show them pictures of your coin in the 65+ holder with cert #?

How much is it going to cost to send it into PCGS anyway?

I am not a gambler- if this were mine, I'd keep it where it is. Depends on whether you like to gamble a little and depends a lot on the 65 vs 66 price guide.

I think I'm going to keep it where it is.....

Most recent auctions for MS65 for the pointed bust are between $2000-$5000+. The Newman coin, graded MS65 CAC by NGC sold for $5400 in Feb. At the lower end of the spectrum, some of the coins look ugly and not well struck. My guess is CAC would sticker this one.

Coins in MS66 have traded for between $8000-$11000 recently.

As stated before, I think I will have the variety added to the label. This would make it one of the top 15 examples between both major grading services for the variety and probably worth the small investment.

In the current market, a CAC 65+ would probably be more attractive than a straight 66 from the point of view of a bidder or investor.

I do think that you should get the attribution since this is a high quality coin; if there is an IHC CC for this variety yours would have to be near the top.
