I have a neighbor who has family from Canada. I build up a small stash and she pays me back in US dollars, she gives them to her son cause he goes to Canada every summer with his kids.

When I first started roll hunting (a few months ago), I traded them back in with my coin dump, but I recently decided to start keeping them, and it's turning into another fun little collection.

I live about 125 miles south of BC. We generally go to Victoria at least every year or so. Any Canadian coins go with me to be spent.

I live about four hours from Canada and have collected over $150 in coins so far. Some from CRH and some from checking coin counting machines. When I get to around $500, I am off to the Canadian Casinos to cash them in!

I save all my American change and go to the American bank to get rolls of half dollars. After I search them for silver I use them to buy American goodies you can not get in Canada. (You guys have like a bajillion different flaovurs of Arizona Ice Tea and breakfast cereals.)

Any Bermudians I keep for a date set I am half working on. All the others get put into plastic capsules by the group of 3. I then put the capsule in my Gumball Machine and drag it to the coin shows for the kiddies.

After a few decades in this hobby, I still get a kick out finding Canadian and other foreign coins in my searches.

As I tell my wife, it's all about the simple pleasures.

All foreign coins I find go straight to the wife. Since she was a kid she has tried to collect coins from all around the world.

Having said that, we live about 2 hours from Canadian Border so we occasionally have a chance to spend any extra Canadian coins she doesn't want.

The initial question puzzled me a bit, until I realized it was coined by an American.

I'm from Europe and as a child I lived at a place where I could reach 5 different countries within a 2 hour drive. This was before the Euro. All these foreign coins and currencies were actually lots of fun to me and a main reason to get interested in money and coin collecting. I still take a set (as complete as possible) of circulation coins with me every time I visit a new country (or try to complete and expand my existing set when re-visiting) as a souvenir. This has resulted in about 100 different such sets by now (and growing).

My advise: keep collecting them for fun, or try to trade a few in case you get too many of them, and maybe try to visit the countries they belong to, to expand your collection? :)

I keep all my foreign coins and if/when I have duplicates, I do trades with some of my friends. I have quite a large collection of world coins from about 183 different countries.

The thousands of Canadian coin I used to get roll hunting, the US banks would not accept. I would hide and spend them in US rolls.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors...
Roll hunting since '77
Dirt fishing since '72
