Well, I went a little overboard on my budget.
What started out as a quest for a single gold coin (my Half Eagle)6 months ago is now a monster addiction with enough money spent to almost buy a house in some parts of the country.

My budget is simple. I open numerous savings and checking accounts in numerous banks. I have one for each different type of situation and also for special request like rolls of coins I just say yes I have an account here. One of those accounts is for coins only. If it gets to low so that I may have to pay a fine or something, so ends buying coins.

I spend a third of the money in my Paypal account. I sell LEGO via the net and bank two-thirds and spend the other third. Doing it this way is real fun because you never know just what you can get. I might get a $300 order or might get a $5 one--you never know.

I used to set aside $50 a pay check but that didn't work to well...i'd spend too much regardless, "borrow" from next pay check, etc etc. I like the LEGO way best!

I set aside $15.00 a week. I also put my spare change in a container and cents I do not save from roll searches.
I usaully only get 3 to 5 dollars of cent rolls a week to search. Roll are not included in the budget. I also collect toy soldiers, sometimes it is hard to choose.

If I had a coin budget like that, I'd be in some major debt.

Since I am 16 I do not have to pay living expenses so any money I get I am free to spend it on coins! One week I might buy a slabbed coin for $80. and the next week a few silver bullion coins or some Wheaties for $15. After I bought my prized 1793 Half Cent at the 08 coinshow in Orlando I didn't buy coins for several weeks! Often I will sell coins for a little extra scratch. -PP

Well I usually spend $20-$25 per paycheck on Walking Liberty halves or Kennedy silver that I can get off ebay for under the current melt value. I look at this as part of my savings and it also takes care of my coin fix.

Other purchases per week/month vary based on the extra income that I get from my work.

I save money here and there, occasionally sell things and then sometimes do extra well at work. That money usually goes with me to shows. If I've managed to put more away than I thought I could, then I will fix a show budget. Feeling guilty about going overboard would reduce my enjoyment of the hobby. Plus, taking time to get something of high quality and semi-rare makes the reward that much greater for me.

I don't have a budget for coins, I just couldent stop my self from spending my cash, so that is why I bought a metal detector, but if I see a gold or silver coin that really catches my eyes, then I would buy it.
