We have a Jack Russell Terrier named Jasper.
He always follows me to the "coin room" and sleeps on my feet while I'm sitting at my table, sometimes for hours.
Sometimes he gets up, walks out to sit beside my chair, looks at me. He'll get his petting, and a brief conversation, then he goes back under the table to lay on my feet.

We have a 4 month old cat named Sapphire as well.
This female creature is both adorable and worrisome while I'm doing my coins. Her interest in what I'm doing there never ends.
I dont love her or find her adorable, while she leaps onto my legs, claws out, to literally scale me and get to the table. I mean, when you've just been sitting there quietly for a couple hours, minding your own business, then in an instant, with no warning, you're screaming bloody murder and hurling obscenities ...well...not cool.
She's leaped onto my back several times too, to climb me, with no warning either, while I'm just quietly sitting there, to "show me love" & that she's interested in what I'm doing too....
She jumps on the table too, walking right over whatever I'm doing, between my magnification tool and my face. All in 2 seconds, so I can't prevent, or see her coming.
Keeps getting in my open boxes of coin stuff on the floor right next to me, either playing or going to sleep there.
And EVERY coin that I misplace or temporarily lose, I blame on her.. () The wife & daughter "generally" know better than to mess with my coins...
Jasper would never get pleasure from causing me pain, stress, and anguish! ---

So, it's been MY experience that dogs are VERY coin friendly...
Cats are not ! --
(And you may even be bleeding after a curious stealthy unprovoked interaction while working on your coins!)

I've never had painful problems with cats who have regularly trimmed claws. Those that are allowed to stay sharp, however, have drawn blood on multiple occasions.

Cat love sitting or lying on top of what you are examining closely, or are reading.
It is their way of getting themselves noticed.
Most of us silly humans just tolerate this sort of feline behaviour.

That happens all the time when we're putting together a puzzle. We usually retaliate by pulling out the vacuum cleaner. Kitties go away pretty quickly.

I have bled more from cat scratches than I ever did when I was just being a kid.

My 15 year old tabby is an experienced Numismatist. He lays on the key board as I try to list on ebay. As if to say .....hey Pal me , not that round thing you are trying to sell.

This is absolutely true, anytime I'm at my desk or the table doing something I seem to gain one or two "helpers". I'm sorry cats, but you can't help with watchmaking without opposable thumbs. I've had to get on my hands and knees looking for tiny screws more than once.

So, either you have very feisty cats, or you had a very sheltered childhood.

Apparently, the former.

Trust me, the forensic anthropologist who studies my remains will find no lack of childhood injury.

Of course, many of my feline related wounds were my own fault.

Ever rub a cat's belly? The trick is knowing when to stop.

My wife loves cats. I wish they would ignore me instead of attempting to trip and kill me in the middle of the night. I've never cursed anything more or spent more money on any animal than I have cats.

I was just getting my Susan B Antony and Sacagawea dollars out of my album yesterday so that I could photograph them for the Forum...

I left the coin album on my bed. When I returned, I discovered Felix guarding it!

The best way to catch the interest of your cat is to ignore it.
Cat psychology: use superior superiority.
